If your ssd is just storing data and not the os (very likely) then you can setup the rpi5 as a new install on a new sd card. Then connect the ssd and mount the disk. This will not delete anything so long as you use ‘mount existing file system’ button.

You will need to reconfigure shares etc but this does not take too long (usually :-))

That's exactly what i want to do,i only use the SSD for storage and the sd card has the SSH connection and software, the problem i see whenever i try to mount it is i have to format everything and then it can be attached...

If you are running OMV 7 and the system is fully up to date, you should be able to take the SD card out of the old system and put it in the RPi5. Then connect keyboard and monitor to the RPi5 and run omv-firstaid to fix the network. I haven't tried this yet.

thank you for your idea dear sir,i will try and hopefully i will have no trouble :)

however i use omv 6 because 7 it didn't supported

Hello,i've been using for a couple of months my Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W as my NAS and everything is working smootly despite the slow speed everything works perfect.

Recently i ordered a new Raspberry PI 5 and i am planning to upgrade from the old Pi Zero 2 W.

My question is how can i configure the PI 5 to detect my SSD and not lose any data from it?

Because if i had to redone the whole process that will be devastating as i will lose all my data

    Thank you.

Hello,i've recently changed my ISP and on my old network i had an Raspberry PI Zero 2 W NAS which was working perfectly.

The problem is i don't know how to configure the new network so i don't need to reinstall the software again with SSH access and configuration for SSD disk usage because it will be a headache to format the SSD which is attached and then re-add the files i have on it...

So is there a way to configure without deleting any of my data?

Thank you very much for your answers.

Never share smb over the internet. You should use a vpn. I use wireguard and there is a plugin for that. https://wiki.omv-extras.org/do…v7:omv7_plugins:wireguard

Thank you for your help, however i had to use PIVpn so i configure it with WireGuard, everything went perfect, the problem is my IP is dynamic and i will need to figure out how to make it static but until then, thank you very much for your help :)

hello,i've installed and configured openmediavault on raspberry pi zero 2 w and created an SMB folder for windows.

Everything went ok,i manage to watch Plex and i mostly use VLC media player to watch and listen to the files i have on the SMB.

The problem i have is that i can only use them while at home.

Is there anyway to acccess it outside my home like from mobile phone using data celular and other wifi networks?

I tried no-ip.com for ddns but that is where things got complicated.

    Any help?

    Thank you
