    Hi everyone,

I'm setting up OpenMediaVault on a Raspberry Pi and was wondering what the best storage option would be for reliable and efficient performance.

I know the Pi itself boots from a microSD card, but I'm looking for recommendations for external storage to actually host the data—something that balances speed, capacity, and longevity. I’m mainly planning to use it for home file sharing, media streaming, and backup storage.

From what I’ve gathered, USB 3.0 external SSDs or HDDs seem to be the go-to choices, especially with the newer Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 models. But is there a noticeable difference between using an SSD vs a powered HDD for something like OMV? Also, are there any specific brands or models you'd recommend (or avoid)?

Any tips on setting it up or optimizing performance would be appreciated too.

    Thanks in advance!
