Hello there, i was wondering if there is an official Discord server or if there is any plans for one?

I think it could be great to have one :D if there is not one, maybe i could make an unofficial discord server with devs permission ofc :D

i Think i know enough Linux/OMV to help some people, if anyone wants help they can add me on Discord: FilleDK#7643

I have been running OMV for the some years now and have Worked with linuxc (in my sparetime) for about 8 years now :D

offline not dead. To assume it is dead is a bit extreme. I was sleeping and everyone who can fix it is working. Here is how you can tell:

oh i apologize then, thanks for the overly qualified answer :-D

    you are the best

so im trying to install the omv-extras plugin with the command wget -O - http://omv-extras.org/install | bash

    but all i get is:

    --2019-09-28 01:43:40-- (try: 6) http://omv-extras.org/installConnecting to omv-extras.org (omv-extras.org)|178.63.91.237|:80...

i then went to the website http://omv-extras.org/ looks like the site of offline? so im here asking (hoping that its not true) is the omv-extras plugin() not being supported and developed anymore?

Trusted by what community? If the image has thousands (or more) downloads and plenty of stars, it is probably ok. You can always look at the dockerfile to see any odd behaviors. The image also has limited access to your system (unless you give it a volume containing everything). I would say if you think about the images you try just like web sites you visit, you will be ok.

Oh well thank you then :-)

You have to try. If one image doesn't work, try another. Because it is running in docker, you won't mess up the host system. Variables would depend on the container. hub.docker.com has lots of images. I don't use (or like) cups because I have network printers. So, I wouldn't be good one to help. Look for any docker cups how to on the internet.

it is my understanding that it is not a generally good idea to download docker images that it not trusted by the community, as it could packaged with some unwanted software???

How are the OMV-Extras plugins for OMV5?

Also, does any recent ISO on OMV4 have the 4.19 backports kernel installed by default? IIRC 4.19 ought to be sufficient for me, but last I checked the OMV4 ISO came with an older kernel.

Im running OMV 4 and i have Kernel "4.19.0-0.bpo.4-amd64" i just checked

AFAIK most plugins that will be avaliable for OMV 5 when OMV 5 reaches its stable release is avalible for OMV 5 beta now :-)
you can install the OMV extras plugin in OMV 5 with the command "
    wget -O - http://omv-extras.org/install | bash

It sounds like the UnionFS mount is failing at boot time. Are any of these HDDs USB devices?

    Post the contents of /etc/fstab

    Before rebooting

after rebooting (before deleting and add'ing them again in "Shared Folders")

You need to point docker -> outside, to the absolute path /srv and your fuse mount point, if you search the forum there is a long thread about this. A user did resolve this using another option if you are using the mergerfs plugin.

if that was the case why dont i see my data when i SSH into the /sharedfolders/ either? i still have to delete and add them again in WebUi under "Shared Folders"

i just tried to point all my containers to the /srv/ path and reboot it does the same, removes my data from /sharedfolders/*

so when i reboots my OMV it looses the data in /sharedfolders/ so i have to go into "Shared Folders" and delete them and then add them again with the same name, then i have the data back

i run my HDDs with UnionFS and the only other plugin i run is Docker, i think that it have something to do with UnionFS as my friend have pretty much same setup and he have the exact same problem as me:-S

    info: i have current
    /sharedfolders/data/*
    /sharedfolderd/movies/*

but when it looses data the directory is still there but there is no files in those directories (sharedfolders/data/* and/sharedfolders/movies/*) in those directories.. i dunno how else to explain it

hello there, so i was tinkering with setting up a Web File Manager/explorer in docker (with something called FilleRun) and i made a softlink of / in / (root?) and now when i try to login to OMV Web UI it gives me: Failed to connect to socket: Permission denied

when i login to CLi through SSH and try to run a command with SUDO (say: sudo nano) it gives me

    Code
sudo: /etc/sudoers is owned by uid 33, should be 0
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin

what did i f*ck up? and is there a fix to this?

sorry for wasting your time :-)
    regards

edit: i can still login through SSH with ROOT and my USER

edit 2, after reebooted the system i got a white page with this when trying to access webUI

hello all, so i was lookign to upgrade OMV to 4x but have some small problems:

    running apt-get update gives me:

    Code
W: GPG error: http://packages.openmediavault.org/public arrakis InRelease: The following signatures were invalid: 0F6BCC17C26BFADC27F221007E7A6C592EF35D13

    Running. omv-apt-clean gives me:

    running: apt-get upgrade

    Code
The following packages have been kept back:
    firmware-linux firmware-linux-nonfree openmediavault

oh and "upgrade" from WebUI gives me:

do anybody know what wrong and how to fix this?

    regards :-)

    helllo there,

so im soon gonna upgrade to OMV4 and am thinking about a clean install (as there is some problems with my current OMV3 setup that i have not being able solve, anyway i have a dir called /docker that is containing all my docker container data/configs

so if i was to take a backup of this dir /docker/ onto another computer and then wipe and install OMV4 is there anyway to restore this data, so that i dont have to setup each docker containers i have, such as "sonarr" "transmission" "radarr" "embyserver" and more (yes i run these in Docker)

    thanks :-)

I have a noctua on my main server too.

    Yet :)https://www.hpe.com/us/en/insi…g-in-five-years-1710.html

i agree with jolllyrogr, air coolers is the best option to run on your (24/7) Server

    things about watercoolers:

1, they are usally more expensive, (example: a CoolerMaster hyper 212 EVO is cheaper than a h60 and better at cooling than the 60 and then the 212evo is useally cheaper)

2, the pump is working more than a typical fan because it have to pump water through that is about much heavier than air and require alot more power to circulate than air too, therfor the pump have a higher failrate running 24/7 than a aircooler/fan

3, leakage (do i need to say more) yes a system like h50 and h60 is a closed loop, but remember it still contain water in the system, therefore it have a "infinity" times more chance at leaking water than a aircooler that have no liquid in them...

but a good thing about a watercooler is that is less stress on the Motherboard due to the low CPU pump weight vs a big bulky metal heatsink with a (sometimes 2 or more) fan on them...

    just my 2 cents :-)

    goodnignt
