Removing collectd from that line let me continue and finish upgrading. I can't tell any ill effects, and collectd is just perf monitoring?

Updating from 4 to 5, error in openmediavault.postinst in line
Some network property ("mtu") ?

8 min for 16 GB sounds super slow. About 30 mb/s. Omv install on flash drive?
Using dd on a live install might produce invalid filesystem, one would suspect.I think there is a plug in to make snapshot of all the omv files for restore on new install.

As a follow up, I can report that simply removing the drives worked.
No need to execute additional command. -
Due to disk space running out, i have moved data from old raid1 array "md0" to new array "md1".
All shares, databases, services changed to new array md1. Everything fine. Unmount disksystem on old array md0, still working fine for a week now.
Now time to remove the disks from md0 physically from server.
Any special procedure to follow or just take them out and power up?
Or remove array and fs in omv first?

Late reply I know. But only upgraded recently, had the same issue.
Kernel bug, related to Nouveau driver. Which manifests in cpu softlock and disk IO. Super strange.
(note: my omv box is an all-in-one solution for me, which performs nas duties, as well as app server and cuda programming. That's why it has a Geforce graphics card although headless)Fix :
> vi /etc/default/grubEdited the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line to this
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nomodeset".
> update-grubAlternative fix : install latest nvidia driver.
Read about it here :

Well I took your advice, fixed the mount options and re-ran "omv-mkconf fstab".
Then I made an symbolic link, for convenience. Thanks again for the instructions.

The sources I talk about are the standard debian sources. A mirror is selected during install, but if it can't connect it doesn't go into sources.lst.
I had openmediavault running in a virtual image for testing beforehand, so I had a reference for what it should contain.
Thanks for the headsup regarding fstab. Please note that I'm not mounting by label, still mounting by UID, only the mount point is altered. I will investigate your proposal for solution.
Could perhaps just setup s soft link for convenience, and keep the original omv mount point. -
I recently finished my new Openmediavault build. It is replacing a qnap nas, as well as a core i3 server, consolidating into one server for all purposes. For that reason it is equipped to run all my developer projects as well as nas duties.
2x DESKSTAR IDK 5TB NAS
Crucial DDR4 32GB 2133-15 REG DRx4 Dual
CPU Intel 2011 Xeon E5-2603v3 Box (1,6G)
Asrock X99 EXTREME4 ATX DDR4
Fractal Design Node 605 Black
PSU 450W Corsair CS450M
MSI GeForce GT720 1GB DDR3 Passiv Low Profile
Phanteks TC12LS Black Low Profile 6 heatpipes 120mm PWM fans
30GB SSDNOW MSATA (via msata to sata adapter)Reasons
The node 605 case was chosen because it supports ATX, and is compact (fits onto a shelf)
The geforce gt720 because I needed graphics for installing, and wanted something with cuda to play with later. Plans on installing cuda toolkit.
32GB ECC ram, upgradable to 128GB.
Hexacore xeon, entry cpu.Special considerations
After mounting disks with rubber gaskets and normal fan speed, the disks got far too hot. Around 60 C. Changed to metal to metal contact on disk mounts, full speed on case fans. Temps are now arounf 45 C. These drives produce some heat.Tried installing first with all disks in, that failed in grub installation. Then disconnected data disks and succeeded. (Annoying, should be fixed. The installer asks which disk to use, why can't it use that for the grub installation?)
Installed without network attached, had to manually edit /etc/apt/sources.lst afterwards, because the installe won't put in non-verified sources. Annoying also, but at least there is som reasoning behind.
Openmediavault runs nicely, have installed some plugins as well. The docker-ui from extras-testing is sweet. On the other side of the spectrum is the mysql plugin which simply doesn't work. (search the forums, the data location setting breaks stuff). Manually setup of mysql instead.
The data drives are mounted under /media with a UID name, instead of using the label the default linux way. Fixed it by editing /etc/fstab, also enabled exec, because I'm setting up my projects on the data drives. OMV accepts this without issue it appears.
I installed the backports kernel, and docker. All works nicely. I chose omv because of the Debian underpinning, and it pays off.
