ryecoaaron: ZFS plugin (backend) works as expected on openmediavault 6.0.5-1.

Thanks for your hard work and continuous support!

I read you post and test it again.

    first I update OMV to 6.0.5-1 and install ZFS-plugin "Opemmediavault-zfs 6.0.1"

then import my previously exported ZFS pool from shell:

As you can see the pool is imported and ready to use from Shell, BUT

is not detected by OMV webGUI, so it can works as expected ( I expected that the imported pool can be show or mounted in storage -> filesystem so I can share some folders, see free space, etc...

Sometimes I want to write to you in Spanish, we would both finish sooner ^^

I don't know if I understand this. Does this mean that the content appears cluttered?

the content appears ordered like DLNA wants, not like I wants.

Imagine all your multimedia show in one folder ordered by name , mixing films and series by example.

Those TVs can't watch content from Jellyfin, Plex, or Emby DLNA server? These apps are supposed to have DLNA for these cases. If a device does not have the full client, they serve it content with DLNA.

It's a matter of taste (not sure well traslate = Es una cuestión de gustos).

I mean, that if you have a good ordered biblio with subfolders for section like films/western, film/drama, and same for series.

MiniDLNA can show only file structure not a plain folder with all the films ordered by /age/name/date/etc...) like DLNA on PLEX, Jejyfin, emby does.

The point is that those DLNA embeded on that apps, are really too complex for a well orderer folder, and I prefer how the MiniDLNA show it.

PD: As I say previosly I use Plex by default , not DLNA on Plex or MiniDLNA today, but I use miniDLNA until 2015

I have no need to convince you, I only ask you that try both and recommend the one that you think works best when post how to install minidlna in a docker

PD: I use plex as a DLNA server, and test Minidlna to see if works for me, but I do not use it on my NAS

And consider best to use Plex, jellyfin or emby than MiniDLNA, but some old TV only can use DLNA.

What is your reasoning for wanting the lordpedal image? When I selected image for the plugin, I tested a bunch of them to come up with my selection.

my reason: have more config enviroment variables that help me to configure properly in my sytem:

I can change port, friendly name, and define several multimedia paths in a logical structure

and have support for several structures (AMD64, arm)

    Thats all

    raulfg3 i'm waiting your revision 8o

ok, 1 - help a lot to post a plex.yaml file instead scrennshot

    2 - please create a Video folder on /srv/dev-disk-by-id-md-name-openmediavault.local-RAID/Video

3 - copy all your multimedia folders on it, so you can have only a reference for all

    eg: /srv/dev-disk-by-id-md-name-openmediavault.local-RAID/Video/film ; /srv/dev-disk-by-id-md-name-openmediavault.local-RAID/Video/SerieTV ; etc...

4 - create if do not exist a user in OMV webGUI to use with plex, this user must be UID=1000 change it to your case.

5 - delete your actual plex docker in yatch ( do not delete yatch, only plex docker)

    6 - install portainer.

7 - Go yo portainer Stack tab:

    push the +Add button

8 - copy and paste this plex.yaml file

9 - use plex as name of the stack

    and use button deploy stack:

    Wait a bit.

now you have a working plex docker.

remember to find your media on PLEX app on /data , not in /srv/dev-disk-by-id-md-name-openmediavault.local-RAID

and plex must work as expected.

The image that ryecoaaron chose is more up-to-date and has many more downloads than that.

Do you want to try to do the guide? The truth is that I don't have much experience with dlna.

NO, but please consider to test both dockers, using a minidlna.yaml file into "stack" on Portainer is the easy way to depoly a container.

In the case of lordpedal docker that I suggest is a copy & Paste and edit few lines.

Which is the right way? wait a bit

What the developers recommend? wait until OMV6 is final ( actually is RC1)

You can of course do a new fresh install of OMV6 to test it , and check the plugin existence, if a plugin that you use on OMV 5 is not ported to OMV 6 , future upgrade fails, unless you first deinstall orphan plugin.

If you do this way, use a new boot device for test so you can always use your actual OMV 5 boot device to continue working

    some tips for beginers.

please use ext4 on your data disk, ext4 or other filesystem native to debian, please do not use NTFS or SSHFS ( your case).

this is your pricipal problem, if you format your data disk as ext4, your probles are gone.

    2 - to share:

use SMB , is compatible with MAC & Windows, so not problem here.

enable home directories and use it.

Do not share folders on the boot disk, OMV is designed for HOME NAS, that means , one disk for boot not shareable and x disk for data.

PD: For power user, or user that only have one disk, exist a plugin called "sharerootFS" that share your boot disk, so you can create and share folders on it, but is not recomended for normal users, because if you have problem with boot disk and need to reinstall OMV , ALL YOUR BOOT DISK are ERASED and USED, so you lose your folder shared on your boot disk.

    Detach your data disk.

do a new fresh reinstall of OMV 6 on a new boot disk

    configure it

    atach your data disk

    power up

mount your data disk on OMV webGUI.

finalize config ( SMB, shares, etc..)

dockers are not Virtual Machines, to do a ubuntu install, better to install first KVM ( A VM GUI) and then install ubuntu like a VM.

User UID must be 1000 or 1001 (the UUID of the docker user that you MUST create on OMV webGUI

if is the first user that you create UID = 1000 if is the second =1001 , etc..

Please post your plex.yaml file that you use on portainer stack to revise

And see my signature to see how to install plex in host mode.

I have no idea why it isn't running (or not working) on your system but what is the output of:

    grep GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU /etc/default/grub

    sudo omv-grubiso disablesubmenu

    grep GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU /etc/default/grub

    here are your request:

and now works as expected on webGUI:

sorry for inconvenience, but i Really never touch Grub submenu, is installed at this way from the latest ISO

I use rufus to burn the ISO inthe USB_boot_key, in DD mode instead in ISO Mode, perhaps that is the origen of the problem, i do more test to be sure.

at last: Thanks a lot for your time and efforts.
