Installed an HD a week ago, and things were working. I'm also using union file system (3 HD's merged). Today I changed the policy to "most free space," then it wouldnt save. Rebooted and it still wouldn't save, then the HD does not appear to be mounted. I had to revert changes, but it still looks like this:
Heres the log/error of when I attempt to mount it:

If you executed it as root, that is your problem.
Do you have a user on your NAS, or just the root user?
Thats my problem, sorry if this is extremely newbie Q, but how do I do it. Check out my screenshot (from windows pc) - https://imgur.com/q3zztzs
1 - I Used Winscp to copy the binary into a 'xteve' folder I created as root
2 - I have my stevedawg85 account added into various groups
3 - I used terminal to follow those steps but it's not allowedYou access the web interface with IP:34400/web
The xml you get without /web is normal behavior. Thanks, you are right, I did eventually get in and play with it some. But I still want to figure out the install as non-root. Because it seems to randomly crash.

Admittedly, Yes I am a major Linux noob, so that's probably my problem.
I 'installed'/started Xteve as root and realized this was not recommended. How can I undo what I did? I used Winscp to delete the .xteve folder it created in root. But now, when I 'reinstall' it, after I go to to provided host/port, IP:34400, it takes to me an xml looking page w/ txt and no gui.
I think I need help installing this as a 'regular' user. I created a 'dawg' account, but how would I install the xteve bin file as dawg. I tried, but says dawg doesn't have access to certain folders. I'll have to re-run it for the error msg.

my /dev/sda1 is 99% full after running df -h . What command cleans some of that up?

I have an HP server running OMV. I plugged in a VGA on the server and OMV starts up and prompts me to log in. But when I go to a pc and try to get to the GUI, it doesn't work, or when I try to get to any services, sab, emby, sonarr, etc, none of the pages load. Already rebooted 2-3 times. It was working fine last night, then this AM this prob just started.
Does cache build up somewhere? and how can I clean from the terminal?

I've had it installed for a few months now and things have always worked. Randomly this morning, I couldn't get into OMV. I checked the GUI, and was receiving this error.
I used omv-firstaid, retyped in the same info, marked it static ip, and now the "network unavailable" no longer appears, but it's still not properly working. I can ping the server, Sab boots up and I can navigate there, but Emby doesn't work along w/ a few others. Also, after I attempt to log into the Web interface, it just flashes and nothing changes.

hmmm, thanks. Here I was thinking scheduling shutdown and bootup times to help the Drives. Its on 24/7 at the moment, maybe I'll leave that part of it alone.
Thanks for the info, I'll keep this in mind!
-
I tried from 2 different client PC's and it worked on the other. no idea why machine #1 doesn't work, oh well, I'll use #2 when needed. I like OMV, i mean, it's the only thing I tried, but I'm sticking with it.

My logic - I want as little stress as possible on my media drive, and downloading can be handled by a Download drive (I set up a separate partition on OMV boot drive). So my question is, is it best practice to have a separate drive to handle the downloading like I have set up? Then have Sab move it to a unzipping folder that is on my media drive then allow radarr/sonarr to do the rest?
What are the best practices or am I overthinking it? Do y'all simply have your media HD do the downloading etc?

I put my big boy pants on (and was impatient, not fully live anyway) and followed thru with what I said above. Additionally, I also had to find the uuid and remove them from the <sharedfolder> area.
Thanks! I have cleaned out the unnecessary clutter. Settings changes continue!

Ok, Want to confirm before I make big changes to config.xml.... Can I delete this entire block?:
Code<mntent> <uuid>dd2736f6-9f3b-4944-84a6-44305cfbdf8b</uuid> <fsname>/dev/disk/by-label/tatooine</fsname> <dir>/srv/dev-disk-by-label-tatooine</dir> <type>ext4</type> <opts>defaults,nofail,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,acl</opts> <freq>0</freq> <passno>2</passno> <hidden>0</hidden> </mntent>

So this is basically a fresh install of OMV. I did a few config changes, then decided I wanted to rename my HD's. I used Gparted to rename my drives, then when I rebooted the system, I noticed an unusual loading/error screen at the beginning about the drives. It booted up anyway, but no I have unnecessary info, I want to keep the system as clean as I can and do not want to start building junk files. examples below of what I want to remove
File System area - Media1 & Tatoonie were previously sdb1 & sdc1
(I found "dev disk by label (xxx)" in the /srv/ area when I ssh in, is it as simple as deleting those as root?)Shared Folder area - Delete is greyed out
I also think my merge/union of the two new renamed drives failed - https://imgur.com/a/NijEX
How can I fix all of this?

Instructions
(Fresh install of OMV)
I followed the above instructions except I skipped the symlink part. For the life of me, I cannot samba into any of my new shares.- Create a user "steve-w"
- Create a shared folder
- Privileges & Acl settings I check read/write for steve-w
- Enable SMB
- Select above shared folder (leaving everything default)
On my PC, I've tried both Start > Run > server ip & maping the drive. When I mess with the "Public" option, sometimes I can see the 2 shared folders, but it won't let me in to browse. It does ask for name/pass, but it wont accept any sort of combination. servername/steve-w or just steve-w or
My samba.conf contains:
Code
Alles anzeigenpath = /srv/dev-disk-by-label-Media1/Media1 guest ok = no read only = no browseable = yes inherit acls = yes inherit permissions = no ea support = no store dos attributes = no vfs objects = printable = no create mask = 0664 force create mode = 0664 directory mask = 0775 force directory mode = 0775 hide special files = yes follow symlinks = yes hide dot files = yes valid users = "steve-w" invalid users = read list = write list = "steve-w"

Figured it out! well, a simple restart of the system did the trick. I'm installed now.
-
So I decided to redo my entire system (I was overdue)
I am now on the latest 3.0.94, I watched the video and followed the instructions. It starts downloading/installing, but then errors out mid-install. I close it, and Emby isn't installed. -
well Gee, that was easy, I freaked out for nothing and should have asked instead of trying to fix it myself. So much wasted time - Doh!
Yes, I switched to IE and was originally in Chrome
-
I've used 1.x before w/ no issues, figured it was a good time to update and try the latest/greatest 3.0.94. Well, I did a fresh install on a new HD w/ no other drives hooked up, getting a couple different problems.
Attempting to enable OMV Extras Test, receive the screenshot/error below.
ErrorAlso, when I try a reboot or shutdown, I get "Value is not an object"
