Losing network connection

  • If it can help, I have experienced a very strange bug

During a file transfer from one of my Windows Laptop over SMB/CIFS, the NAS goes down for reboot and after this, he was completely unreachable over network :(
ifconfig tells me that the NAS have the right IP adress but ping local and external from NAS and from network to NAS don't work :(
I've tried a lot of commands, network configurations, I have rebooted the NAS ~10 times and I have loosed approximatively 5 hours of my time to find the solution ^^

Just shutdown the NAS, switch off the power supply, wait 30 seconds and switch on ...

    Stupid NIC :P

  • I've had problems with Realtek NICs like this when there is a driver issue. I've also had crashes during transfers when using ECC ram on systems and there is corrupt data being sent.

  • Thanks for the details !

My NIC is "RTL8111/8168B" with r8169 driver, I will blacklist him and use another one to be sure
