Nice.
What kind of display do you use and how it's connected?
Hi,
The display is connected via usb.
Here is a list of compatible/same/similar displays:
http://dpf-ax.svn.sourceforge.…/trunk/fw/knowntypes.html
There is a (small) risk, however, that it might not work, since there are variations. But the programmers are quite helpful.
Not all displays have the same bightness/quality, but still look ok.
FYI, the LCD screen itself is approx 36mm x 48mm, really tiny but a lot of fun.
They need a special version of lcd4linux.
They are different in bightness and sharpness (even though they look the same), and this one is one of the better, but not available anymore.
But the others are okay, too.
If you buy one, you cannot be 100% sure that it will work, but the programmers are quite helpful.
For people who know German, here are some helpful links.

Since installation is straight forward, I can help if necessary.

Here is a comparison of two photo frames from the list above,
but as I said, even the worse one is ok for me.
(I even ordered an additional one)

Tomte, do you know if anyone has got this working with wireless picture frames? Now that would be cool.
Hello,
I doubt this, but I never looked at it.
The lcd4linux homepage is here:
http://ssl.bulix.org/projects/lcd4linux/
there is also a list of photo frames supported, but it looks rather old.
I personally use my apple devices to check my server status wireless.
See an example here:
http://www.synology-wiki.de/index.php/IStat_Server
and attached the output for my OMV.
Regards, Tomte
No android app for istat. I did find someone using a wireless frame with Bluetooth. If you run across anyone else using a wireless frame let me know.
I found something here:
http://www.mobilepcmonitor.com/
There is a linux client, too.
In case you test it, let me please know how it is.
Regards, Tomte
Thanks for the tip! I installed Mobile PC Monitor and wrote a newbie's tutorial on how to do this step by step. Waiting for approval in moderation queue now
Hello,
great, you're welcome.!
Where can I find tutorials? Is there a dedicated space for this?
Regards, Tomte
I just created another thread in the same section for Plugins. Here's the direct link:
http://forums.openmediavault.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1013
I'd suggest to contact Volker for wiki account and put all such tutorials on wiki.
How do I get DPF-support in lcd4linux? Tried it under Kubuntu 12.10 (Quantal), no go -> missing dpf-drivers. Can you please give me a hint or even create a deb for easy install? Thx
Hello,
in the vdr-portal thread mentioned above, in the post No. 185, there is an explanaition of how to compile a dpf-version:
wget http://tech.section5.ch/files/dpfhack-0.12devel.tgz
tar -xvzf dpfhack-0.12devel.tgz
cd dpf
make all
cd lcd4linux
make install
cd ..
cp dpfbig.conf /etc/lcd4linux.conf
lcd4linux -F
I assume, you need
apt-get install libtool automake autoconf zlib1g-dev libssl-dev python-dev libc6 libusb-dev libibus-dev subversion libgd2-noxpm-dev libgd2-noxpm
before.
That worked fine for me.
Attached, you can also get directly the binary.
There is not much more that you need for it. make sure, that you do
otherwise lcd4linux will not accept the conf-file.
Then start with
Ask, if you have problems, tell if it works fine.
Regards, Tome.
It works! Thx
If I have some free time, I'll try to write an article for the wiki.
Hello,
I am setting up a wiki for this kind of picture frames:
http://ax206howtos.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
It is still kind of a mess.
Participation, specially for the OMV section is welcome!
For the autostart section, I have not figured out how to do this for the OMV. For my arm NAS systems, this was easier.
A udev-rule description would also be nice.
Regards, Tomte
Look here:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?9,9915,10788#msg-10788
I posted my knowledge for Ubuntu. The udev-rules should also work on Debian/OMV
So could you please add it in the according section?
You should have access.
You could even start an ubuntu section, if you want to.
The problem with the forums is, that the complete information is hard to find.
Tomte.
Hello, lcd4linux is valid for my display that I have integrated into my server box?
Its a netbook 8.9" display A089SW01 V0 http://www.panelook.com/A089SW….9_LCM_parameter_302.html
Could I install something like this?
Thanks!
Mallow, you should make a post about your machine in the "My NAS build" section of the forum. The lcd4linux project seems to be dead. It looks like there have not been any new packages since like 2009 or 2010. You did a post in the How Tos topic a few days ago about your machine. I am going to delete that in a few days. We really don't want people adding topics there. Please give more info and pics on your machine in the "My NAS build" section. Also, I don't understand why you would want to add that system monitor stuff because there are sections in the OMV web-gui that already give those statistics, perhaps not as detailed.
