    Hi,

I use OMV as a plex media server but plex was complaining the server version was too old and I couldn't find a way to upgrade it so time for a OMV upgrade.

I've installed the latest version of OMV 5 and I'm trying to setup SMB so I can access the files again.

The files are on an xfs RAID partition which has been mounted and it's showing the correct amount of data on the drive in 'File Systems'

I have set up myself as a user with full permissions and added a shared folder mapped to the File System.

I notice when I check the ACL for the shared folder it doesn't list the directories it contains.

I've enabled SMB and added the shared folder.

The issue is I can't see any of the existing files or directories.

I can transfer files to the share fine so it's working.

I presume this is a permissions issue but I don't know how to fix it?

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

You sir are an utter OMV genius!

    All fixed.

The indexes are all fixed for the updates and plugins.

I havent tried updating to 2.x and i have no idea where the omv extra section is supposed to be, i seem to remember from years ago it created a folder in the web gui.

however, im not really fussed because all is working again so im happy for now.

Thank you very much for your help I never would have figured this without your help.

I first tried updating to omv2.x but it failed:

SystemError: E:The value 'stable' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources
    Reading package lists... Done
    Reading package lists... Done
E: The value 'stable' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources

Thought I'd install omv-extras anyway - seem to install fine, but of course I can't actually go into the plugins folder because of the previously mentioned index error....

OK thanks very much, I really appreciate your help.

I ran an upgrade to version OMV 1.19 using omv-release-upgrade. Took a while, seems like it's a substantial update.

Now I'm on the latest version of Plex Server and so far all seems fine !

Is there any real benefit of moving up to 2.x ?

One thing - if I go to Update Manager I get the error:

'The index of upgradeable packages does not exist. Please re-synchronize the package index files from their sources'

    and on the plugin section:

'The index of available plugins does not exist. Please re-synchonize the package index files from their sources'

How do I do that ?

    Thanks,
    Lee

Thanks ryecoaaron for taking the time to respond, much appreciated.

When I said adding the key did nothing I meant the key got added as far as I could tell but running an apt-get update then apt-get upgrade found nothing to update.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,

I have read through that thread but I can't make any sense of it at all.

I tried adding the repo with:

    apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv EDEE7D73

    But this did nothing.

    Tried running:

    apt-get install apt-transport-https

    But it throws the error:

Failed to fetch http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debia…8.10.3+squeeze1_amd64.deb 404 Not Found

    If I run:

    apt-get update

I get a load of repos which are 404 Not Found ?

How can it have gone so wrong? What am I missing ?

    Hi Guys,

I've been rocking along fine for years running OpenMediaVault (currently on 0.5) with the plex server plugin.

It's always been a bit behind the main server releases but usually the updates came through eventually.

However, I've been stuck on plex version 0.9.16.4 for a long time now with no updates through update manager.

Through the plex console it's telling me to update to version 1.1.4.2757

    Could anyone help here?

I'm no Linux ninja but I can SSH into OMV and run some commands.

Do I need to add in a new repo at all? Can anyone help?

Edit: I notice when i do an apt-get update that quite a few resources are 404 not found including the shell.ninthgate.se which i think might contain plex ?

Edit: Following another thread I tried updating the key for ninthgate repo like this:

    sudo curl http://shell.ninthgate.se/pack…hell.ninthgate.se.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -

However, now when I go to Update Manager and run an update I get a error, although I think this may be the same error as the previous edit.

    Hi,

I now have two OMV installs.

On my first one OMV v 0.4.31, the RAID 5 state shows as 'clean'. It did have a disc failure a long time ago but a new one was added and it re-built fine.

My new install OMV v 0.5.0.24 shows RAID 5 state shows as 'active'.

So what's the difference? Why does one say clean and the other active?

    Hi,

I currently have one OMV server set up with 4 HDD in RAID 5 and all is good.

I'm about to setup another OMV server and I was just wondering if I can start with one drive, add another and mirror the two, then add another and RAID 5 them.

Or do I need all drives in place before I can raid 5?

    Hi,

I've been pulling my hair out over an issue I can't seem to fix.

    I'm on OMV 0.4.31

I have a popcorn hour a-210 which connects to OMV via NFS but it is read-only.

The NFS share is set to read/write privilege.

The user has read/write privilege on the shared folder.

The user has been given full read/write in ACL and permissions inherited.

I even added rw to the extra options in the NFS share.

No matter what I do the NFS share is always read only ????

    Help!

I found this by doing a search:
    http://bugtracker.openmediavau…t_bug_page.php?bug_id=281
Seems like there was a historical problem but was fixed a long time ago?

Thanks for the help guys, I've looked through that link and searched online but can't seem to find any reference to what the url is for the virtrualbox website that is created.

The link provided gives links to OMV VM's in virtualbox format, but i can't seem to find anything about using the plugin in OMV?

Thanks, I have now installed Plex Media Server!

So Now I just need to find out about VirtualBox Plugin. Do you create in the desktop version first then transfer the HD file perhaps?

    James,

I notice you are running plex media server from your signature, can you tell me if you are running in your XP VM or are you somehow running it directly in Linux ?

Also is there any instructions on how to use the virtual box plugin, I've installed it but don't know how to proceed creating vms?

    Cheers,
    Kudos
