Ah, I see those duplicate lines now in the config.xml file. I will edit them out and reboot and report back.

The share are now showing up in the OMV GUI.

I still can't see them from my Mac even though I have rebooted. FTP works fine. Probably a problem on my mac's end. I will mark as resolved. I have no idea how those double audit lines got in there.

Yes, my bad. I jumped to 4.x without backing up config files in 3.x.

    SMB is not working.

I see it on my desktop but it will not connect. My desktop is a Mac running OSX.
In the OMV gui, I get the following error when I click on the SMB button:

Failed to index key 'audit' of 'audit.0' because it has no children.
    Error #0:RuntimeException: Failed to index key 'audit' of 'audit.0' because it has no children. in /usr/share/php/openmediavault/dictionary.inc:145Stack trace:#0 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/config/configobject.inc(193): OMV\Dictionary->set('audit.0', false)#1 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/config/configobject.inc(271): OMV\Config\ConfigObject->set('audit.0', false, false)#2 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/config/configobject.inc(233): OMV\Config\ConfigObject->setFlatAssoc(Array, false, false)#3 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/config/database.inc(85): OMV\Config\ConfigObject->setAssoc(Array, false)#4 /usr/share/openmediavault/engined/rpc/smb.inc(118): OMV\Config\Database->get('conf.service.sm...')#5 [internal function]: OMVRpcServiceSmb->getShareList(Array, Array)#6 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/serviceabstract.inc(123): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)#7 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc/rpc.inc(86): OMV\Rpc\ServiceAbstract->callMethod('getShareList', Array, Array)#8 /usr/sbin/omv-engined(536): OMV\Rpc\Rpc::call('SMB', 'getShareList', Array, Array, 1)#9 {main}

    Output of smb status:

    systemctl status smbd
smbd.service - LSB: start Samba SMB/CIFS daemon (smbd)
    Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/smbd)
Active: active (running) since Sat 2018-01-13 12:41:52 PST; 6h ago
    CGroup: /system.slice/smbd.service
    └─2574 /usr/sbin/smbd -D

I have reviewed the OMV config file discussion from this thread: SMB / CIFS Cant see the shares. Get an error
I don't see anything obvious in the config file related to "audit" or "smb" that looks wrong and needs editing, but I did not go over it line by line.

    In the GUI under SMB, the Shares are empty. However, if I try to add one , it says I can't because it already exists. It outputs this error;

The configuration object 'conf.service.smb.share' is not unique. An object with the property 'sharedfolderref' and value 'd36c2417-2807-485d-b26e-f9d447fff8f5' already exists.

Lastly, the output of omv-showkey smb is:

    root@openmediavault:/usr/share/openmediavault/templates# omv-showkey smb

I struggled to go from OMV 2 to 3 but finally got it working. Then I installed duplicati. Rebooted. Got this message in the GUI which renders using the GUI impossible because the error will not go away (just keeps popping up forever). I researched on this forum and others and I am clueless:

    OMV\ExecException: Failed to execute command 'export PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin; export LANG=C; free -b -t -w 2>&1' with exit code '1': free: invalid option -- 'w'

    Thanks for the help.

I've run it several times. Here is the output:

    I got this error:

    chown: invalid group: ':openmediavault-config'
ERROR: Failed to create the default configuration: Command '['/usr/share/openmediavault/confdb/create.d/conf.sh']' returned non-zero exit status 1

Then I read this post and did this from ssh:

    groupadd openmediavault-config

    And now it works.

    Thanks for the nudge.

I finally got around to updating using ovm-release-upgrade from 2 to 3.
I have a 502 error on the GUI page (nginx). I do not have a monitor connected directly to my server. I am trying to access the gui from my personal browser on my home network

I have searched to forum and tried some things but no solution. Maybe it's a plugin problem. Not sure. I don't know how to check for incompatible ones. Appreciate the help!

    I get the following errors:

Here is output from dpkg -l | grep -E "php|openm" that others have asked for to help diagnose:

I have decided to go with the Crashplan Small Business option for the time being. It requires version 4.8.3 of their software. I am currently running a headless version. How can I check the version of my crashplan client? I have tried lots of commands and looked into configuration files, but can't seem to find a version. I restarted it from the command line hoping it would tell the version, but it does not.

I posted this in the upgrade section as part of the problem I was having in upgrading to the latest version. I'm moving it here since this is the only problem that I can see that is left.

In OSX I can see my AFP time machine folders in finder. I can "connect to server" in OSX from finder. I can see the Time Machine disk if I open up timemachine preferences. Time machine asks me for the user name and password. I enter them successfully. And then it comes back with an error:"Time Machine can't access the backup disk. The operation couldn't be completed (OSSStatus Error 2)."

I went ahead and created a new shared folder and made it a time machine folder. I can connect to that one and can start a new time machine backup.

When I go to my pre-existing time machine directories on the OMV server, they are empty. I'm not sure what happened to them in the process of upgrading. Are they recoverable?

installed natatalk via OMV Gui and now Apple Filing is now in the GUI, so making progress. But still get an error involving netatalk (see below)

GUI: when I go to Diagnostics -> Services, it shows Apple Filing is enabled but the Running column has a red dot, which seems to imply that it is not running.

I am able to create shares using Apple Filing but when I try to make the TimeMachine backups, I get the following error when applying the change:

    Code
    [code][code]

    [/code][/code]

I get a familiar error when I install it via the gui:

Well...something good happened. I tried again to log in to through the gui which had been down, and voila, it worked. It says I'm running 1.0.29. Now off to play with plugins, etc. to see if I can get the system back to its previous plugin, networked state, and to take advantage of some of the beneficial changes.

It's really odd though. I have no idea when the system started working again. but....it appears to be working...though on the gui I'm getting this error

    Code
    Failed to get configuration (xpath=//services/afp)Error #3003:exception 'OMVException' with message 'Failed to get configuration (xpath=//services/afp)' in /usr/share/openmediavault/engined/module/afp.inc:110Stack trace:#0 /usr/share/openmediavault/engined/rpc/services.inc(63): OMVModuleAFP->getStatus()#1 [internal function]: OMVRpcServiceServices->getStatus(Array, Array)#2 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpcservice.inc(125): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)#3 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc.inc(79): OMVRpcServiceAbstract->callMethod('getStatus', Array, Array)#4 /usr/sbin/omv-engined(501): OMVRpc::exec('Services', 'getStatus', Array, Array, 1)#5 {main}

Is this still a netatalk problem? I suspect so given that it involves afp.

    Any additional ideas welcome!

Seems like netatalk continues to be a problem. Aargh! Results of the purge:

    results of the -f install

Making progress I think because a whole bunch of new things were accomplished but still some errors. Not sure if owncloud is causing problems but the following error seems important:

Package openmediavault is not configured yet.

Anyway, here's the outpout of apt-get -f install after the rm command

Still having the same errors. Drat. Here's what it say after I run the purge:

    and after I run apt-get -f install

The real problem seems to be netatalk. I can't seem to purge it, delete it, etc. It states the package is in a bad state.

I'm not sure if this dpkg information is helpful.

Here's the end of the output from omv-update:

I've gone through the step by step recommendations for when you get errors and nothing is working. I've done that 3 times now. Help needed!

Here's the error I keep getting:
