I've replaced ther poorly applied thermal tape on the heatsink with quality thermal grease and things look better already. The CPU hovers at 40-44°C when idle.
I'll have to see how it performs under heavy load. Thanks again for your input and support.

Thanks for your reply,
I went the Pine64's Rock64 way a few weeks ago. Unfortunatelly, i may have stumbled on a defective unit. While performance is great, (about 100MB/s read / 70MB/s write) i couldn't achieve any long term stability with it, whatever distro i tried (OMV 32, 64, Volumio...)
Getting kernel panics and random reboots. Also, i've read that the 4GB version had issues with some Linux distros.
I'm planning on ordering the 2GB version, housed in its heat dissipating aluminium casing instead.
https://www.pine64.org/?produc…4-premium-aluminum-casingI wonder if the similar 'specced' Libre Computer would perform the same.

Hi everyone. I've been using OMV on both Raspberrypi and Rock64 4GB.
I'm wondering what kind of speed improvement you can expect when using the 3B+ over the stock 2/3B models.
Is it still worth adding a USB to Gigabit ethernet adapter ? I know the 3B+ has a Gigabit ethernet built-in (limited by the USB2 nature of the board), but external ones may still perform better on some occasions.
