Ok, so there's only e-mail warnings?
Because in the filesystems, there was no obvious warning, but the disk is marked missing, but no flashing 'red alert' ?

Hi all,
I'm planning on upgrading my digital archive.
Currently a 2011 build with an Areca & HighPoint, 16 drives, 2x 8-drive RAID5.
Old RAID controllers can't do large drives anymore, so they'll have to go and be replaced with LSI's .
I decided to go with OMV4 + SnapRaid + MergerFS
The system is only a few times a year online, when I add to the archive.

I've been studying these systems, and messing around in virtulbox, but there's one thing I can't seem to trigger:
I've set up MergerFS & SnapRaid, put data on it, did sync, scrub, delete, fix, etc...
I shut it down, remove a virtual data drive (to simulate a dead drive), boot it up, and it all just works... ?
Why don't I see a popup "warning, drive lost", or "raid degraded", or beeps or anything?
Of course some files are missing when I do a SnapRaid diff, but I'd like an alert before I start doing other stuff when hardware fails.
Am I missing something?

I read about the SMART monitoring, but will it trigger an alert if a SMART device disappears? Is there maybe a thing like 'Volume monitoring' ?
