Problem solved: after starting minidlna in debug mode on the console I could see the error message that the path of my share could not be found.

    This raises 2 questions/enhancement suggestions:

    1. why is the minidlna error message not visible in the logfile in the web UI, even in debug mode?

    2. I entered the share's path by hand and made a mistake, but shouldn't OMV warn the user that the share's path does not exist?

    Best regards

I think it would be very reasonable to have a logout button directly accessible (without menu).
This is because the one thing you will definately do every single time after logging in is: logout.
I didn't yet accidetally choose the wrong menu entry, but logging out is not as convenient as it should be IMHO.

Coming from OMV 0.5 I updated to 1.0 by doing a fresh install.
However, now I am experiencing problems with miniDLNA.
Video files and pictures can be accessed, but my music files cannot.
It seems they are not indexed at all, though file permissions are identical to the video files and pictures (though in different shared folders).
From the log I could see that miniDLNA complained about some very old JPG images which it couldn't read information from.
Then I removed the video and picture shares from the DLNA configuration to concentrate on the two music shares.
I set DLNA log level to 'Debug' and hit 'Rescan'.
Strangely, this is all that goes into the log file:

    [2014/12/01 22:29:56] minidlna.c:153: warn: received signal 15, good-bye
    [2014/12/01 22:29:57] minidlna.c:1004: warn: Starting MiniDLNA version 1.1.2.
    [2014/12/01 22:29:57] minidlna.c:354: warn: Creating new database at /var/cache/minidlna/files.db
    [2014/12/01 22:29:57] minidlna.c:1043: warn: HTTP listening on port 8200
    [2014/12/01 22:29:57] playlist.c:125: warn: Parsing playlists...
    [2014/12/01 22:29:57] playlist.c:256: warn: Finished parsing playlists.

Are there many debug output lines missing or why is the logfile only showing that playlists are being parsed?
I don't use playlists and with OMV 0.5 it was no problem, all files were indexed as expected.

Does anyone have a hint on how to debug this further?

    Thanks,

Is there a way to set the default language on the Web UI login page to English?
I do regularily clean all cookies in my browser and afterwards I have to select the language again.

I'd like to set English as the default language so that even on first access to the web UI English is preselected.

Is there a setting I could tweak?

I did a fresh install from the openmediavault_1.0.20_amd64.iso image on my HP54NL microserver which previously ran OMV 0.5.
I disconnected the 2 RAID drives and had only the system SSD connected.
Boot from USB drive and installation went fine, but I could not login to the web UI using admin:openmediavault.
Via omv-firstaid I reset the web UI password and could connect.
All changes made through the web UI are accompanied by an error message:

    Error #6000:exception 'OMVException' with message 'File contains invalid JSON (filename=/var/lib/openmediavault/dirtymodules.json): ' in /usr/share/php/openmediavault/util.inc:274Stack trace:#0 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/module.inc(365): OMVJsonFile->read()#1 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/module.inc(55): OMVModuleMgr->setModuleDirty('webserver')#2 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/module.inc(45): OMVModuleAbstract->setDirtyByName('webserver')#3 [internal function]: OMVModuleAbstract->setDirty(8, 'org.openmediava...', Array)#4 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/notify.inc(124): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)#5 /usr/share/openmediavault/engined/rpc/webgui.inc(118): OMVNotifyDispatcher->notify(8, 'org.openmediava...', Array)#6 [internal function]: OMVRpcServiceWebGui->setSettings(Array, Array)#7 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpcservice.inc(125): call_user_func_array(Array, Array)#8 /usr/share/php/openmediavault/rpc.inc(79): OMVRpcServiceAbstract->callMethod('setSettings', Array, Array)#9 /usr/sbin/omv-engined(501): OMVRpc::exec('WebGui', 'setSettings', Array, Array, 1)#10 {main}

I tried to update the system via the web UI Update Manager, but this also failed.

My question is: where can I find ISO images for other OMV versions? I'd like to roll back a bit to previous 1.0 builds and try my luck.

For me updates stopped working as well. I read the hint regarding the DNS but mine is working fine (ping google.com from shell is working).

This is the full error message:

Coming from a Synology DS211 (2x2TB RAID 1, 256MB RAM) I recently got more powerful hardware (HP N54L, 4GB RAM, 2x4TB RAID 1, 256GB SSD) and installed OMV on it.
I'm very happy with OMV and have some questions:

    1)
The "The configuration has been changed." message in the web GUI sometimes appears with a big delay (some seconds).
It's regularily the case that I'm already changing other settings before the message is being displayed.
Could the "configuration changed" message be made faster somehow?

    2)
I noticed a few times that logging into the OMV web GUI sometimes seems to wake up my attached USB HDD.
It's not happening all the time, but since I only use the USB HDD for a rsync backup in the night, no other process I'm aware of could have caused that.
    How can this be prevented?

    3)
I get the "Resource limit matched localhost" and "Resource limit succeeded localhost" notification emails.
Can the Notifications be customized (apart from being enabled or disabled)?

Also the email notification would be more helpful, e.g. for the "Resource limit matched" warning, if it would additionally contained the current resource hogs:

    Code
    ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -k 1 -r | head -10

    4)
I like to be informed about successful rsync jobs, but I do not like to get huge emails with all files listed. Not only is this a privacy concern but also of no real use for me. I want to know the job was successful (or not) and I'd like to see the summary "sent 800M, received 98k, 31M/s total size is ...". This way the notification email would be small and helpful. Is there a way to achieve this?

    Thanks,
    daflow

    Hi,

I just put a system together (HP Microserver N54L, 4G RAM, 120GB SSD, 2x4TB HDD) and successfully installed OMV.

Now I just read multiple times in some comments to OMV that it is not suitable to be installed on an SSD because OMV generates a lot of writes to the system drive.

    My questions are:
    1) is it true that installing on an SSD is not recommended?
    2) which excessive writes (compared to a standard Debian installation) does OMV additionally generate?
    3) is there a possibility to reduce OMV specific writes? (I'm familiar with the standard Linux SSD howtos regarding noatime etc.)

Could OMV be improved so that it automatically uses optimized settings (e.g. noatime) for the system drive in case an SSD is being used?

    Thanks,
    daflow

Thank you very much for sharing these instructions!

Maybe you could include the following comments in order to help linux novices even more:

The following line should be corrected:
    unzip Web-UI-for-Serviio-Serviio-1.3.zip
    correct: unzip Serviio-1.3.zip

The Apache instructions state "add the following code to Apache" but the first line and last line are actually commands, the text is between them.

Also if OMV web GUI has been set up to use https, the Serviio web GUI will also be found under https://your_host/serviio
