You named it openmediavault6 but you are running 4 or 5?

Well, it was omv4 for omv 4, then omv5 for 5.x and then... omv6 for another installation of omv5. :)

    UPD:

Followed recommendations from here: Errore upgrading OMV 4 to 5

Added notification section from page 2, and was able to restart openmediavault-engined.service.

I'm able to login right now and access my config. Will do all the backups and try upgrading to 6.0 to match hostname

    Hi.

I've tried to login to OMV panel, but couldn't remember password. I've tried to run omv-firstaid, but it crashed with an error:

    ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'openmediavault.procutils'

I've updated packages and got omv-firstaid working. It was unable to change password though:

Updating control panel administrator password. Please wait ...

ERROR: The method 'setPasswordByContext' does not exist for the RPC service 'UserMgmt'.

When I login using admin account (or my personal one that I'm using for SMB) I'm getting this:

Is there a way to fix it without nuking whole installation?

    Thanks

    hi all.

I tried to login into my OMV recently and login via web gui failed.
Okay, I went to ssh and run omv-firstaid. Reset my password and it didn't worked.
I've tried apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and tried omv-firstair once more - same result.
I wasnt using any drives yet and I'm running OMV at my ESXi host - so install it once again requires some clicks.

So, fresh install from /openmediavault_1.9_amd64.iso and same result: i cannot login into web gui at all.
I guess it updates omv during installation and it causes an error. I cannot even login with default pass.(admin:openmediavault)

    Omv-first air shows this one:

So, what is the reason and how to fix it.
Shoud I use 2.1 version instead? I don't want to run into that error with some data on my drives.
Can anyone do fresh install from openmediavault_1.9_amd64.iso and check this out?

Nope, it it not. It boots from internal drive with WHS. Tried to do install as advised and it stopped @94% for half an hour. Now it says I need to reinstall it with recover and blah blah.. I know what I need to reinstall on this box :)
There's a button and as I get it makes it boot from USB stick for recovery. Or when you boot without any drives in it boots from USB. I'm thinking to hotplug the drives(says it's ok), erase any boot info there and use it for data.

    Hi!

Got my hands on a acer revocenter recently. Want to get rid of WHS and put openmediavault instaed.
i'm kinda lazy about connecting monitor and keyboard and Im on my laptop mostly, so I got an idea: Can I install OMV onto USB stick via Vmware, then put it in server and boot from there? Will it work? i think yes, but want anyone to confirm this. If this gonna work?

    Regards,
    Victor

Well, if not takins speed into account there's many ways to send data across a globe.
I got mikrotik routers here and there(remote is x86@vmware) and there's built in bandwith test tool. Don't know if I can believe it, but it says: ~15-20Mbps in 10s average. Total average is 15+Mbps. That's for TCP protocol. UDP show even better figures.

    I'm in US.
Server is Kazakhstan(it looks like Russia though)

May be I need to build a new server fast and start rsync/syncthing/whatever. This might be finished by now if I staered a couple of weeks ago.

    I get something like this:

    root@omv:~# speedtest-cli --server 1088
    Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
    Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
    Testing from JSC Kazakhtelecom (95.58.184.131)...

    Download: 66.31 Mbit/s

    Upload: 58.77 Mbit/s
    root@omv:~# speedtest-cli --server 1168

The problem is that I'm on the other side of the Earth. Or omv host. Depends on how you look on this.
Either way, quite interesting puzzle. How to increase speed between two points.

I know I won't get it waay better then it is now, but wanna choose an optimal way.

Tried webdav server with cyberduck client.
I'm getting about 500-700KBps(~4mpbs) via ipsec tunnel and 700-800(6mpbs) when port exposed to the internet.

Looks like my connection on remote side sucks, it shows about 50 megs, but I'm on the other edge of the earth at the moment.

Believe it will be faster to ship harddrives by mail :) 10TB in 10 days.

Will take a look on webdav or owncloud/syncthing

Any advices on what to choose? Guess Syncthing will create a copy of data on my harddrive, not just give me access on demand, right?

    Hi all

I've moved far away from my home now, and accessing all my files from my home. Need your advice on what is best way to get access there.
OMV runs at HP Microserver G7 under EXSi 5.5. Memory ain't a problem, but CPU power may be. Mikrotik x86 running next to it.

I got an IPsec connection up and runninng. Not that I totally satisfied with network performance I get though.
One side is 50 meg, anoher is 120meg(speedtest says so). Public IP both sides, but clients behind a NAT(port forwarding works for IPSEC)

    1. NFS vs Samba? Which will give me better resuls? What is easier to tweak for VPN?
While at home I don't really care with 1 gig link, but being overseas it makes sense.
    2. Putting some service outside of VPN? Wise idea? Doesn't look so to me. I'm running Subsonic, but this is only music.
I didn't found any authorization in NFS, but i wasn't searching alot.
Samba asks for user/pass, may be I cann add some cert to it.
    3. Tweak something? Any other ideas?

    Hi all.

I don't know where feature request topic, so I'd post some here.
    1. OMV got nice graphs for a network utilization, or drive usage. Maybe you can include HDD temp there? I believe it's pretty simple to do, and it's really useful, to check temp on your drives trough the day.
    2. What about plugins, and I see you discuss some network plugins, I'd like to see softethervpn plugin, and Tor plugin. It should be pretty easy to install it as standalone apps though.

Ok, bought two toshiba drives, installed and now testing all the possible configurations. I guess there's bottlenech somewhere and I cannot get it. Or I'm doing it wrong.

    Nevermind. Figured everything out.

Wonder what read and write speed people get using single 1gbps links in different configurations.
Drive shows 180mbps(say 150 to be sure) on read or write. and single drive doesn't utilize link 100%. My write speed to a single drive is about 60mbps.

I've tried and made it like this:

    Is that correct?
I can see /dev/md1 and /dev/md2 devices. I believe I need to mkfs on md devices too, but that's not problem.
I also understand, that running raid0 on second partition is kinda stupid, that was only made for testing purposes. Can't test a RAID1 read speed, but I hope it will be faster then single drive.

    Hello.

I'm newbie to OMV and running it on my microserver for a month. Now it's time to upgrade the disks.
I wonder if I'd get a read speed increase if used in RAID1? I suggest some tuning needed, but if this can be performed on OMV?
I'm running OMV on ESXi, so this gonna be software RAID only.

Another question is: can I partition my disks same way, and use only 1 partition for RAID?
Say split 3TB drivers in two partitions: 2TB and 1TB. Put 2x2TB partitions in RAID1, and stripe 2x1TB partitions. This would result in 4TB of total space with redundant 2TB.
