That isn't an OMV issue. That is a Linux issue (as far as I know) of not booting when there is a failed drive. That is why server grade boards allow you to log into the board over the network to change things such as bios settings and fix problems like you are simulating.

Unfortunately, I can't get it to compile even on a Gentoo system that I know has all the right tools. I'm not very familiar with the autogen build system that minidlna uses now. Anyone else have any luck?

No redundancy but JBOD (linear) raid may be what you want. You could put the drives in raid 5 but they would each look like your smallest drive (kinda wasteful depending on drive size).
-
Virtualbox uses a file as well. The plugin just wants to know where to put those files.

Try: mdadm --grow /dev/md127 --raid-devices=3

I just updated one system from the web interface. All perl packages from Debian's servers. It said the packages could not be authenticated. I updated another system from the command line. Same four perl packages and I didn't get the authentication message. Maybe the web interface can easily be changed to authenticate the packages just by changing the update command???

Well, I guess we would need to hear from Volker on why it is that way.
-
I understand there is a risk. Source code could be compromised and a signed package created as well. Only the OMV packages come from non-Debian servers. The Debian packages should all be signed. Not sure what other packages aren't if the OMV packages are signed. I guess it is a risk you have to take if you want to use OMV.

Wow, nice work tekkbebe

Actually, I just meant use the OMV iso. Do you need to boot the img.gz file? I assume you want the newer kernel and that is why you are using a custom squeeze image?
-
Volker can speak better of this but I don't think those packages are unauthenticated. The flag is there but I think it is for the OMV packages which probably don't have a signed repository. I see very minimal security risk if you only use the OMV provided packages.
-
Which packages could not be authenticated?
-
How come you don't use the standard OMV image and then use the backports 3.2 kernel?
-
Definitely due to mdadm. Just the way it creates the array where the other options don't do it that way.
-
Depends on the file size. Large files should be faster than that.
-
From the command line:
mdadm --stop /dev/mdX
mdadm --remove /dev/mdXand then delete the superblock from the individual drives:
mdadm --zero-superblock /dev/sdX
-
You could change the OMV port to 81 and then you should be able to use port 80 on the web site plugin.

What do you do with this "Titan"?

The WDTV steams just fine from OMV using samba (windows file sharing) or minidlna. I use one all the time. All of my files are mpeg2 or mpeg4 and they are going to a stereo TV. So, not sure about 5.1 or MKVs. That would be a question for the WD forums.

While I like nano better, why not install vi if you like it better? apt-get install vim is pretty easy
