Mine is modified similar to the Parkytowers one...

I use a 120Gb SSD with SATA cable - SSD end is straight connector and the motherboard end is right angle connectors.

My T5740 has a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, a 120Gb SSD and only just about gets warm to the touch (not very scientific, I know) and is reading data from my weather station and writing it to a MySQL db.
It then processes the data to produce images for the web (Apache) every few seconds for near real time output and it does this 24/7.
I love my re-purposed thin client (it only draws around 11 watts and rises to 13 watts when processing data).

@ DaWauZ - I use weewx for collecting weather data and some different 'skins' for web output

Google groups for support

There has been some talk about energy monitoring within weewx as well.
My weather station (due for an upgrade to a Davis Vantage Pro 2 soon - just need time to put it up!).
http://www.nthead.co.uk/weewx/index.html (standard weewx skin)
http://www.nthead.co.uk/Bootstrap/index.html (modified weewx skin)
http://www.nthead.co.uk/web/ (near real time output - move your mouse on the graphs and also watch the output change on the left side every few seconds as new data changes)

Runs headless Debian 7 and all the weather software is open source ;=)

edit
I also have some of this open source energy monitoring hardware to build one day (not enough hours in the day at the moment)

My T5745 is running 24/7 and is connected to my weather station gathering data every 8 seconds.
It uses around 11 watts idling and 13 watts when it creates/updates images for the internal web server.
It has a single Crucial 120Gb SSD.
oops, I linked to the wrong mSATA/IDE interface, it should be this (for 2.5 inch)

I have used this on another build but not on the T5745 - for that I used the direct SATA interface on the main board.

I use this one

and also this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-5-…pters&hash=item233e3542d3
Whenever I can I use a direct SATA on the motherboard.
Nigel.
The expander does come up on eBay from time to time.
Nice build and similar to my SSD conversion of a T5745
Some great info on re-purposing thin clients here...
http://www.parkytowers.me.uk/thin/index.shtml
So far I have a T5745 + 128gb SSD, a 10zig 1.6 Atom + 32gb mSATA and a T5325 1.2ghz ARM + 16gb mSATA - both mSATA conversions are with an IDE to mSATA adapter.
Most of this stuff is cheap on the 'bay nowadays.
Next project is a mini iTX Atom board in an old Shuttle XPC case with 3 drives (OS on 1xIDE and RAID 1 on 2xSATA for data) plus OMV...
