Thanks for your help The problem was ultimately my own lack of thoroughness. The"test" file I had been using in the share folder turned out in be an incomplete or corrupted media file-chosen because of its much smaller file size Since most of my library is in HD. Well even though I could see it from every other machine on my network I had never bothered to try and play it outright with vlc. A day and a half later and a complete reinstall of OMV just now I set up the share library again this time with a tested media file and lo and behold Plex found it added the metadata and played it flawlessly. Just a newbie mistake , thank you for your ultimate patience, and now on to sickbeard and beyond!

Here is where I added the folder which goes ok but I just have1 Mp4 file in there as a test and Plex can't find it
-
all right here are some shots of my share folder on Data drive
I don't know how to give stat command from ssh to this folder on that drive -
I apologize I don't know the syntax from CLI to do stat of share folder on data drive
Root prompt is on system drive -
Yes I can access pled interface
-
When I installed pled it didn't create user plex at least not in the same group as my user
When I installed sickbeard it added sickbeard as a user right under my user -
Yes I can ssh as well
-
I assumed that I could put the share on the data drive and since I had user access that the permission would follow to plex

Hi guys fairly new to Linux here just migrated over from whs v1.
I have installed OMV on an ex485 and installed the plugin for Plex and have it working at least with channels etc . My problem is with the share folder of course, and I can't seem to find plex as a user and thus won't inherit my permissions to see the folder?I've installed/uninstalled the plugin three times so far with the same result - plex database is on my data disk but can't see my share folder there. I haven't messed with the acl at all since reading the related posts admonish not to but I do see pled in there. A point in the right direction would be appreciated thanks.
Pled has database here: /media/9cd7774b-fde0-4fa6-a7d3-d8ff3ceeea2e/plexmediaserver on Data drive.
