I've been getting emails from cron about this error too. Last one was a few minutes ago.

After checking, it seems like the repo is currently down.

Regarding the swap, one way is to make a swap partition on the SSD (which probably means shrinking your existing partition to accommodate it) then once it's formatted EXT2-4 and marked with the correct partition ID of SWAP, you need to edit the /etc/fstab and change the swap line to your new partition.
I don't know enough yet about the workings of Debian to advise on moving the OS though. But basically it means deciding where in the boot process you cut over, because you intend to still boot off the SD right?
If you want to boot from the SSD, then its a lot simpler. Easy way would be to do a backup with the backup plugin, and then restore that to the SSD with the appropriate tool (like Gparted, partition magic, whatever).

    Start from the beginning.

Are you sure the new enclosure is functional?
Can you test it on another machine/laptop?
Boot to OS, *then* plug it in, and see if the OS recognises it. (look in Device manager on windows, System Information on macosx, or a simple 'lsusb' in linux).
Try with only one drive connected in the enclosure to rule out a problem with the drives locking up the enclosure's bios.

What's the mfctr/model number of the enclosure (just for reference)?
