    I've managed to create a Samba share that makes the usb drive visible. But the transfer rate is about half that which I was getting with it connected to my pc - now about 4MiB/s whereas over the WiFi I was getting 8MiB/s from usb…

    Why? Flexibility to be able to pick the port you want requires an extra click or two some times. I don't have a way to dynamically select the port on the form. So, you will just have to pick one.

    Easiest way is to clone the disk with e.g. Clonezilla. In that case the clone will have the same UUID and you can just exchange it. But don`t use both disks (original and clone) at the same time.

    Do you have the home directory set as a shared folder in user settings in gui? Might be that this is still referencing the old disk?

    You will need to make sure all shared folders are updated to point to new disk but I think you have done this already.
