You can not mount the root filesystem because it is already mounted. You need another disk for the user data to create a filesystem on it and mount it so that you can create shared folders on it.

You could also serve the VM storage via nfs or iscsi from OMV but the kvm plugin can do passthrough as well.

Well, I looked it up. Asus like Synology defines the partitions as 'raid' even if there is one disk. When you add another disk, the 2Gb partitions (7Gb in Synology - OS and swap) are extended over the new disk in RAID 1 so that it will continue to boot… -

I don't know what changed for you, but fwiw I schedule this for each array in the omv scheduled task list. This appears to still work. The scheduling is human readable too :-).

If it's the only drive in the system and you have installed omv to it, it is already mounted as the os drive. if it wasn't mounted, the system would not boot. -

Did an upgrade from OMV 7 to 8, and ran into a bunch of issues I can't seem to find a solution for. Eventually was able to start OMV (manually... from the GRUB prompt... but at least it is somewhat running, SAMBA and KVM functional, even web GUI…
