Today I've attempted to do my first in-place upgrade using omv-release-upgrade to upgrade OMV 7 -> 8.
Mid installation my SSH session was interrupted.

Within the pool, you can set whatever permissions you want. It's just data.
Anyway, it seems you're determined to do it your way. It's your server, so it's your decision. -

And is this risk specific to using the mount point as my shared folder, especially if my perms are probably gonna be set-and-forget? Would modifying perms inside of BigPool/data like you're pitching carry the same risk? -

Modifying the permissions of some folders and files in Linux can corrupt the system.
