    Sorry, I can't help you with that issue. I use xfs format, not ext4. If I recall ext4 from the gui is rather slow, but xfs is rather fast. I don't believe there is a way to gracefully stop the ext4 format. I believe it is possible to do a faster…

    Select the disk in Storage>disks and hit the little eraser/wipe button in the top menu/action bar. A quick wipe will probably be enough to erase that pre-existing structure. then you can create a file system on the disk.

    Noticed that. I'll keep using the plugin instead since backups are all in the same HDD. What I did was restructure my backup HDD as follows:
