So I did this thread last year on trying to build my NAS on my old gaming rigs parts. Well it hasn't turned out do well because I keep getting CPU soft locks lately.
Here's my current setup:
- Gigabyte Motherboard (GA-880G-UD3H) (Want to replace with Asrock C2750D4I or a SuperMicro board)
- Cooler Master RS-700-PCAA-E3 700W (Soon to be replaced with Corsair CS550M)
- 16GB Ram (Want to replace with some ECC RAM)
- AMD CPU (Phenom II X6 1055T)
- OpenMediaVault USB with Flash Plugin (San Disk Ultra Fit 32GB)
- 6x2TB HDD (3xWD Reds, 2 WD Greens and 1 Seagate).
A little dusty but I'm going to go burrow an air compressor to slowly clean it out.
I've been trying to steadily replace the hardware but these softlocks are preventing me from using my NAS.
I have ZFS with Compression and Dedup on so it's increasing resources on file tasks but it shouldn't be causing this and from what my googlefu is showing its to do with overclocking and if my PSU is providing the required power.
According to http://powersupplycalculator.net/ this is my power usage:
