I've seen that other people have had this issue, but I haven't found a solution that works for me, we were using an old version of OMV (1.x) until yesterday, I wanted to update as our connection speeds on the old version were horrible (about 4mibps)
I downloaded the installer for omv 3 and installed from the disk, I got most of our plugins set back up except SMB
If you try to connect to the machine, directly by IP Address it simply will fail, I can see it in the network list, the message is the generic "Windows cannot access 192.168.0.6" No login popup, the same thing happens when I either browse to the server or connect by hostname, it also happens when I try to browse directly to a shared folder (instead of the root share) and when I try and connect using mapped drives, specifying a user account
I can connect via SSH and FTP, I have restarted the server, SMB and bounced the SMB 'network discovery' service, I also changed the server IP Address (I have since changed it back), in case there was some residual authentication in the windows machine that would not allow me to connect
I'm not too familiar with working on any *nix systems directly but when I connect and check the status of Samba it tells me
* samba.service
Loaded: masked (/dev/null)
Active: inactive (dead)
which doesn't look right, but I don't know what it means
I have tried changing some settings in the smb panel but nothing has changed yet.
I have a 'shared folder' on the system, two users, and I shared the folders in the SMB panel.
Attached is my samba config, thank you for taking the time to try and help!
