Partition Table gone, but everything else is Ok (data completely ok)

  • Hello,

I just had an odd event..
I have a btrfs pool in mirror configuration. After a reboot, one of the two drives did not show any partition anymore. The other was fine.
With testdisk, I was able to restore, then mount the drive.
btrfs scrub was able to verify my data.

What failure can wipe my partition table, but nothing else?

    Greetings,
    Hendrik

  • Sometimes, this problem occurs due an improper file system change or bad sectors in hard drive. I suggest you to audit the health status of your hard disk as a preventive step.

You can download a drive monitor software to evaluate the health of your drive. Try free demo available here:
    https://www.stellarinfo.com/wi…recovery-professional.php

In the above software, you can locate bad sectors smoothly.

During the analysis of any HDD, users must ensure the useful points as follows:

    • Attribute ID
    • Attribute Name
    • Attribute’s Status
    • Attribute Value
    • Worst value of attribute, ever reached
    • Threshold Limit – below which hard disk is like to fail
    • Fitness percentage
