how to remove "SMART error" (mails) caused from unplugged/removed USB harddisk

  • Hi there.

During my tests I ran into the following errors on a "test/evaluation system":

I removed an external hard drive which was connected via USB.
I had this HDD set up to monitor the SMART values.

This hard drive was intended for a few tests for external data backup.

Now I receive the following mail every 24 hours:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

This message was generated by the smartd daemon running on:

    host name: NAS-99-TEST
    DNS domain: [Empty]

The following warning/error was logged by the smartd daemon:

Device: /dev/disk/by-id/usb-WD_Elements_10B8_5758413141433452524E3458-0:0 [SAT], unable to open ATA device

    Device info:
    WDC WD20NMVW-11AV3S2, S/N:WD-WXA*********, WWN:5-0014ee-260fe92b3, FW:01.01A01, 2.00 TB

    For details see host's SYSLOG.

You can also use the smartctl utility for further investigation.
The original message about this issue was sent at Sat Dec 28 22:32:05 2019 CET
Another message will be sent in 24 hours if the problem persists.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Let's assume the hard drive is no longer available - how do I get this message or the monitoring of this hard drive deleted?

The drive is no longer visible in the menu, so I'm not able to delete or deactivate it.

    Thanks for hints.

    Kind Regards,

    FriendlyUser

  • Reattach the drive and disable monitoring in SMART-Tool of OMV-GUI.

    Same issue here

but I can'r reattach the drive, since I do not have it anymore.
