Hi
is there still an tv server plugin available for omv ?
my problem is i need one seperate server only for streaming and recording tv. it is a windows machine with 4therecord now called argus tv and 4 DVB-S2 Tuners.
did everybody here have an tv server integrated in omv ?

myth tv should be an tv-server but how can a linux newbie implement it ?
-
You can set up a tv recording service on OMV. But you have to do this on CLI.
First of all you have to install the firmware of dvb-s devices. This can be the tricky thing because not all dvb-s devices are supported by default.
In second step you have the choice what recording service will fit best to your needs.
I would prefer Klaus Schmidingers VDR but you can use TV-Headend too.Regards

hi UZI

oh this sounds very interessting.
i'm searching for a good tv receiver for years and havent found anything that would fit to me.
and now i have just a bad one, wich crashes sometimes, and is slow in data transfers, etc.is there a list wich tv cards are supported on linux?
i'm using dvb-c searching for good recording software.if there are more informations please post a link.
i have search often for this information, but never found good ones. -

you can watch out http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/in…rdware_Device_Information
VDR is a very stable. I've used it for almost 10 years now.@ crank: If you're not familiar with Linux you'll find it difficult to set up the tv recording server on OMV. You have to be aware where to find log files, how to install software, how to handle error messages....
If you'd like to have a solution out-of-the-box, check out http://www.yavdr.org. This is a recording solution with samba server option.
Just be aware OMV is focussing on file services not on tv recording. As said set up of dvb hardware is the most challenging issue. I'm using a Cine-S2 recever and it took me some hours to get it up and running.
Installation and configuration of VDR is not a big trick. If you're familiar with German language watch out this nice web page

tv headend is very good and i can recommend it
https://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/projects/tvheadend
and it can uses xmbc as a frontend which i do with a raspberry pi
-
yaVDR has xbmc integrated too
at least you'll have various options ...
as already mentioned out of my experiences VDR and TV Headend are easy to install
VDR is stable and does have a big community
TV Headend was maintained by one person in the past but this has changed and now development is moving forward
=> both solutions are ok -
the TBS 6891 card works perfectly with omv
https://www.lonelycoder.com/re…ts/tvheadend/wiki/TBS6981
this is a guide to install which I used
to install tvheadend I followed this
https://www.lonelycoder.com/re…s/tvheadend/wiki/Building
all works fine

I use Windows Media Center for my recording, so I can't be too helpful. But whenever I want to try something out, I create a Virtual Machine in Virtualbox. If you do it this way, you can choose any flavor of Linux and recording solution that has good documentation to help you along the way. The other nice bonus is that you don't have to worry about messing with your OMV installation.
The only real downside to this approach is that you really should have a decent amount of RAM and a processor that supports virtualization.

Hi crank,
you can find various links to this topic
even in OMV forum you can google it
http://forums.openmediavault.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=450Wiki of TV Headend https://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/projects/tvheadend/wiki
On CLI:
First: Using the editor of your choice you have to add repository http://www.lonelycoder.com/debian/%20hts%20main
Second: apt-get update
and apt-get install tvheadendBut as mentioned before
you have to install the correct firmware of your dvb card first! And this setup can change due to the type of dvb cardcheers

Code
sudo apt-get install build-essential git pkg-config libssl-dev bzip2 libavahi-client-dev zlib1g-dev debhelper
Where the stars are nomber revision and architecture of your system. It is best to check with ls what files we generate.
after install go to http://ipadresyourmachine:9981 and config your tv card or iptv

Crank contact James over here as he seemed to have compiled the latest version for use on OMV which is probably the same as mentioned above
