Users can't log in... except me!

  • I have the system to the point where users can see the shares from their Windows XP boxes. Logging in results in getting the username/password box, but upon entering the info, it is not accepted, but instead plugs the \machinename\username in the username box, and blanks out the password.
I've set CIFS and folder shares to allow access by both the users and the group to which they are assigned, and triple checked a test password, no dice.
What is weird is, I'm having no problem logging in from my Windows 7 machine or their machines when I log in under my own username/password.
    I am running .5.9
    any thoughts?
    thanks,
    jf

  • Try to force the domain to the nas e.g. type not just the username but rather

    "HOSTNAMEofyourNAS\username"

  • Still no dice; it is acting as if the passwords, execpt the one I set up for me, are no good. It leaves the "HOSTNAMEofyourNAS\username" info in place, but won't log in. I've checked, and every user is set up exactly the same as the one I set up to try myself...

  • Please post the output of:

    Code
    pdbedit -L
    cat /etc/passwd

No fear, there are no passwords stored, I just want to see the users.

  • Sorry, my bad. Can you login locally or via ssh to run these commands? They are not yet implemented in openmediavault-supportinfo, otherwise I would say install the plugin...

You may run these commands via the cronjob in the webgui.

  • just set up the two lines as cron jobs a minute apart; when I try to log in locally, using 'admin' and pw, I can't get in, and when I log in under my user name, pbedit is not a valid command?

  • If you login via ssh or locally you have to run these commands as root!

If you do them in the cronjob interface, just test run them and you get the output.

  • Do the other user and passes work from your win 7 machine? What is chmod of the shared folder? If the Shared folder does not have correct chmod the users will not be able to access the folders/files in the shared folder even if you give them access via privileges or ACL.

  • pdbedit -L

Something like a chmod 666 /WestSpringfield ? I'm assuming I can't do that from the web interface, need to so that from command line?

  • Do this on your shared folder:

    chown -R root:users sharedfoldername

When they login do they seem to enter but nothing is there

Where they fail login do you have option to choose another account? Haven't used xp in a while.

  • OK, I'm clearly missing something.. when I log in locally as root, and do ls I don't see anything in the way of directories. When I log in as jfriedson, I can see and cd to media and get to the level above the sharedfoldername However, even though I've changed my user status to include root, with or without sudo in the command, it is not letting me execute the demand. ?

EDIT: ouch wait.. gotta use root password with SU <sigh>

Yeah, the command worked.. lets go see...
