Idle States on Intel Alderlake/12th gen

  • Hi there,

so I'm new to OMV and just setup my first system with the following components:

    Intel Pentium Gold G7400 - 2x - 3.7 GHz - LGA1700 Socket

    Gigabyte B660M DS3H DDR4 LGA 1700 1xHDMI 2xDP 4xSATA3

    + DRAM, drives, PSU, etc

Since energy prices are quite insane I was trying to optimize the power consumption using powertop.
The overview only shows C1_ACPI to C3_ACPI, even tho all the c-states are enabled in the BIOS.

I did some digging and I think the reason is that the intel_idle file included in the 5.16 kernel does not specify idle states for 12th gen intel CPUs.

In case that assumption is right, can someone point out how to update to a more recent kernel or edit the file to include 12th gen Intel CPUs?

Or is there anything im missing?

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi,

this is something I found lately.

So in my case I had the same when using the PowerTop 2.11 but with 2.15 it shows properly everything but only before running the "--auto-tune" which made the 2.15 also showing the C1_ACPI up to C3_ACPI.
I'm on kernel 6.0 and CPU 10th gen.
