Openmediavault-KVM reports 'broken packages' and unable to resolve dependencies

  • Hi there,

I don't know why, but after upgrading from 5 to 6 and afterwards removing the kvm plugin I now have trouble installing it again. It reports that I have 'held broken packages' and that it cannot resolve the following dependencies:

    • libvirt0
    • libvert-daemon-drive-qemu
    • libvert0 (again)

I don't have a clue what to do now. Can someone help me figure this out?

    Best regards,

    Emiel

PS: here is the full install log:

Disable backports in omv-extras and try installing.

  • Tried that, didn't work. Same errors pop up.

If backports are disabled, then it shouldn't be trying to install backports packages. Hit the apt clean button.

Yeah I made sure to do that after my second try, but still got the same dependency errors. I just now did it again, but as you might expect: it didn't magically start working sadly

What is the output of: dpkg -l | grep -E "qemu|kvm|virt"

sudo apt-get purge libvirt0 then try to install the plugin again.

  • Ok so that helped quite a bit!

After purging libvirt0 it allowed me to install the plugin without just erroring outright, but I wasn't out of the woods yet. Apparently libvirt-daemon-system was broken as well, as when it installed it reported as not being configured in the apt install log. I then removed the kvm plugin again (which reported as being installed??) which purged libvirt-daemon-system with it, which solved the last problem. Another install of the kvm plugin went without a hitch and there were no errors/warnings in sight.

I really appreciate you helping me out this much! It goes to show how involved and caring people involved in this project really are.

Thanks again and have a great day!
