Sleek NAS for Home use

  • Here is what I managed to put together:

    Hardware:

ASROCK B560M-ITX/ac Motherboard with native support for 4 SATA ports and 1 M.2 PCIE port,

    16GB DDR4 RAM,

    Intel Pentium Gold 6405 CPU,

    Silverstone ECS06 6 Ports SATA Gen3x2 (6Gbps) Non-RAID PCI-e card,

9 x Toshiba 2.5 inch Laptop SATA HDD's 1TB each for Data and Parity (2 Parity + 5 Data + 2 disconnected spares for future use),

3 x Identical Kingston USB-3 Data Traveler Exodia DTX/32 GB Pen Drive for Root/OS, (1 live OS, 1 disconnected clone and 1 Spare for future use),

128GB SATA SSD for use by DOCKER and

128 GB PCIE M.2 SSD as live spare,

    PSU:450 Watt Corsair CX-M Series CX450M Semi-Modular Low-Noise ATX Power Supply.

All of the above inside SilverStone Sugo SG13 Case.

Key Software: Debian 11.6, Open Media Vault (6.2.0-2 Shaitan), with SnapRaid and MergerFS plugins.

Intended use: NAS for Home use, backing up data from Laptops and Phones, mostly Photos, Videos, documents etc.

It is hard to believe, but after modding, this little case from SilverStone has space for Nine 2.5 HDDs, one 2.5 inch SSD along with a M.2 SSD. The case is cooled by 1 x Arctic 120MM fan and is super silent.

Now slowly I am going to populate it with Data that is scattered around all over the place in old Camera SD cards, Laptops, Iphone, etc. and then back it up to a 4TB Portable drive. Thanks to everyone on this forum for Guiding me as I was putting this together. I am sure that I will still have many questions as I start using this server.

    Regards,
