I have been running OMV for 2 years now, and all of a sudden I don't see OMV from the network places on my Windows 7 computers. I can access the webGUI with out any problems. And I can see all my shares (samba) from my android phone.
Any ideas?
Thanx
all of a sudden I don't see OMV from the network places

Did you reboot (unplug for 10 seconds and plug back in) any switches or routers on your LAN?
-
Yes, I rebooted and unplugged etc... no luck.
-
-
I don't think it is issue with OVM. It seems to be issue with your Windows machine. Do you have more then 1 Windows machine to test on another machine?
-
I have two windows machines and they both stopped seeing OMV at the same time...
-
Are you using the firewall on OMV?
BTW- You shares are working, as shown by your phone. There is a discovery service that allows the Windows machines to find the shares. That is where the problem lies. We need to find out why your machines are not finding this service. Are you connecting via the Network icon on the desktop? Or how do you connect?
-
-
No, no firewall on OMV and I turned it off on the windows machines...
-
On the Windows machine how are you trying to connect to the share?
-
I am just looking under network via computer from start menu. If I type the ip address in a browser it gives me the OMV GUI login screen.

Give results:
service nmbd status
If it is not running start it:
service nmbd start
-
You should still be able to access your NAS if Samba is still running via your explorer by typing in the IP/Hostname.

It is as he can access via his phone. He is just having some netbios issue.

Shoot... no when I try to access OMV with ssh via putty it says access denied. So I don't know how to enter service nmbd status.
-
hmmm.... ssh is enabled in web-gui, yes? I'm sure it is because you have been using OMV for a while. What is your system drive??? If it is SSD I wonder if it is starting to have issues? Do you have monitor and keyboard attached? Sometimes you have to do things the hard way.
-
Yes, I enabled ssh. OMV is on a spinning drive, not ssd. I can attach a monitor and keyboard...
-
-
Login and then do these commands. You will have to tap the power button once to shutdown and then press power to start, to get the keyboard and mouse active.
service nmbd status
If it is not running start it:
service nmbd start
-
One last question...
If I just re-install OMV is there a way to import my two drives or will they need to be wiped formatted and everything copied back to them? -
You will see them in the filesystems section. You just need to mount them again.
-
-
OK, thank you for sticking with me...
I re-installed OMV... it didn't fix the problem, but I can now SSH in... but I get this.root@openmediavault:~# service nmbd status
nmbd: unrecognized service
root@openmediavault:~# -
Did you enable SMB/CIFS service??? You should not see til then.
