Data safety of RAID and LVM after update in Native OMV system

  • Hello,

I am considering building a Backup OMV as a Native system (not on any hypervisor) on X86. The Main reason behind that is full SMART access & Disk suspension, which was not available on my pervious system within Proxmox.

Due to a variety of Disks sizes, I have chosen the following strategy-

    - RAID 1 of similar sized drives.

    - LVM of all RAID 1 Groups

This allows me to have redundancy even on LVMs. (I shall also make a scheduled DD of system drive)

Now, my concern is if the OMV updates will there be any chance of alteration of RAID or LVM data tables of being altered or damaged ?

    - For Major generational Upgrade, How should I proceed to keep the RAID and LVM parity info intact?

    - I also plan to do direct PCIe pass through with JBOD. Can that be a source of any issue other than HW failure?

    Please suggest any potential solution.

    Thank you.
