dual boot macOS and Proxmox or OMV with KVM

  • hi all,

I am planning to repurpose an old macmini (2012) and dual boot from a single disk (SSD) with macOS and Proxmox - this is just for tinkering with VMs.

It took some effort as I needed to install Debian 12 and then Proxmox after using the guide here https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/I…_VE_on_Debian_12_Bookworm

I stuffed up by not creating the bridge network during the Proxmox install but fixed this in recovery mode by editing /etc/network/interfaces and adding the bridge.

So now I can boot into either macOS or Proxmox and it seems to boot ok with the message that I can access Proxmox web interface on https://ip-address:8006

The issue I have is that I can't access the web interface or even ping the ip so I think something is still not quite right with the network settings.

I can access the Proxmox cli on my macmini so I do have some access. Anyone have any ideas for what I can try to get it working?

I am also thinking that an alternative approach is OMV+KVM instead of Proxmox. Thoughts on this?

  • I got it working. I setup the bridge incorrectly.

For anyone interested, what I did to get it working is to bridge to the physical interface using the same IP. So the server has a manual IP 192.168.100.119 and I used the same IP for the bridge.
