My home server data built

  • Hello to all forum users,
I also want to introduce my NAS here. But First, I would like to get rid of a credit to all those who invest in their free time, lots of time to bring open source projects such as the Open Media Vault ahead.

My objective was to have a central location for my data, such as documents, music, video to save. The documents I have decided to a Raid 5 to manage the data relative safe. As a backup I have an external hard drive connected via USB 3.0. For video and music I've ever hard disk.

In the past, I started Free4Nas. But what in little room for maneuver for extensions. Then I switched to Freenas, but even that has not convinced me. On both systems I had installed the ZFS as harddisk filesystem. But after inside I was thinking to Ext 4 to set.

Last but not least, I use Linux as operating system on working pc and notebook (Ubuntu 14.04 with XFCE). In general, stocks with a ext4 system, i think it is possibility of data with an existing Linux system after a crash restore!

Therefore me the Open Media Vault has very convinced about the stability, the possibility to install plugins for a variety of applications, such as Plexmdiaserver, ownCloud etc.
