Simple Service Discovery Protocol

  • Hi All

I've had a couple of abuse notifications from my provider stating that my OMV is responding to Simple Service Discovery Protocol scans of the box.

I've turned off all service discovery, but still get these, could it be a plugin or is there something else in OMV that might respond ?

    Thanks

    Nik

  • Some months ago I received a complaint from my provider, too - my router was open for upnp and I never checked that. Upnp should never be exposed to the web due to security reasons, only inside a network. After disabling upnp everything was ok.
Wireshark is always a good tool for checking packets, but upnp might use a lot of different ports. In a first step I would block every traffic for port 1900 UDP if that is possible on your router/firewall and check that router for disabling upnp, modern routers should offer that.
