Hi,
I have been an OMV user for a few years and I would like to be able to improve some things that do not suit me.
Indeed, here are my concerns, I would like to be able to use the NTFS file system with omv or, it turns out that it is not compatible. Example:
Directly connect an NTFS USB stick to the OMV NAS for file transfer (I often have USB sticks in this format), even if omv now supports NFTS playback, we cannot say that the management is the best it is.
When I want to make a transfer of hundreds of GB of data, I can not go through my PC because it would force me to leave my PC on etc..
Recently, my laptop crashed and I could no longer access my omv NAS directly from it
So I wondered if the best, for my case, to have the best of both worlds was not to: Create a «PC-NAS»
Mount a Windows PC as light as possible that would only be used to host an OMV NAS via VirtualBox by assigning physical disks to OMV. That would fill all my gaps.
No more worries of choice between NTFS and EXT 4
I will be able to make transfers by letting an external HDD connect directly to the NAS using Samba
I keep omv with its different services
When my laptop fails, I can manage everything with keyboard and screen from «the PC-NAS»
So in your opinion, are there constraints to do that? In terms of power consumption, transfer speed

I am on OMV7. For having had some problems and after browsing the forum, it appears that it is strongly discouraged to write on NTFS.
It’s more about writing than reading.
