Just to add my Thanks here too.

But at first it didn't go well, two attempts (using steps in the guide mentioned above) failed, still left with ver 6 then unable to access at all. These attempts I ran the commands from WeTTY within the web browser, I noticed that some actions stopped due to file being in use!?!.

So the third & successful attempt I ran commands from the server screen login (after reinstalling my os drive backup).

So did having the web browser Dashboard open cause the errors?

The install from openmediavault_6.5.0-amd64.iso was fine, applied many updates after install & some plugins, then installed "wget -O - <a href="https://github.com/OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers/packages/raw/master/install">https://github.com/OpenMediaVault-Plugin-Developers/packages/raw/master/install</a> | bash" this is where I think it all went wrong, unable to access anymore plugins or install any of those listed. see below:<br>

Surely this shouldn't happen when you install omv-extras? I had it working OK with omv5.

So after having this issue when trying to upgrade from 5 to 6 last week I did a fresh install of 6 but I think it was after installing OMV-Extras that it all started again. OMV-Extras I don't think has installed fully & again I can ping 8.8.8.8 but not google.com.

Following through post "DNS not resolving on OMV 6.0.42-2 after setting interface DNS" I have similar results!

    Quote from Votdev:

    Zitat

Please do us a favor and install the system from scratch. Installing systemd from the backports has made your system unmaintainable and put the package management in a state where it seems impossible to fix the package conflicts.

And again from Votdev further down the post:

    Zitat

Install debian and then install OMV over debian. Note that running the OMV install script will also install omv-extras and, if memory serves, will enable backports by default.

Like "nila" in the above post I didn't knowingly install through 'backports'.

So my question is what should I do if I have to do another fresh install?

I've already tried to install this, similar results when trying to install anything.

Hope you can make sense of this as I'm lost.... was only trying to 'update' from v5 to v6.

Trying to upgrade from v5 to v6, ran 'sudo omv-salt stage run deploy' I'm sure it completed OK.

Then 'sudo omv-upgrade' not sure of the output.

Then 'sudo omv-release-upgrade' This when I noticed 'Failed to fetch http:// ****' & 'Could not resolve****'

So searched on here for help, tried what I can find but nothing worked.

I can ping 8.8.8.8 OK but not google.com, checked DNS setting & found it to be empty so added my gateway address & 8.8.8.8 - nothing.

The system had been updating fine previously., but does nothing now.

    Oh & I use a static IP.

When I 'ls /etc' resolv.conf file is listed but unable to view contents - No such file or directory.

    '/etc/apt/sources.list' appears to be correct

'systemctl status sysemd-resolved' gives 'Unit systemd-resolved.service could not be found.'

    '/run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf' gives ' -sh: 7: /run/systemd/resolve/resolv.conf: not found

    Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes I found this & did it, it ran with errors, made no difference.

I've been getting an error for months now when checking for updates but they installed OK, now I can't install them.

Error window gives this for checking for updates:

I've not found anything the same on the forum, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thought it was tongue in cheek, I'm sure you do see it many times!

Can I steel your signature 'Air Conditioners are a lot like PC's... They work great until you open Windows." (copied & pasted lol) Been using Linux for more than 20 years now but have to keep Windoze on a pc to access so many things that are only written for Windoze or Mac!

    How about this one:

"There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary & those that don't"

I think that's how it went!

    Thanks again.

For you or anyone else who may come across this.... You have to download it (with the download button) that is right above the big bold letters that say: "Please download this document and view it locally"

It will download as a PDF, then you can cut and paste just fine.

For the swap partition, you have to manually partition to do that.

It's obviously not BIG & BOLD enough as I missed it! lol

Thanks Guys, now the fun begins setting it up!

    Thank You crashtest,

Yes that worked, was unable to copy & paste from document though, so didn't work until I figured out that wget -o was actually wget -O. ^^

There were a few lines of errors when the script was running in PuTTY on the OMV screen, lvm2-activation-generator: lvmconfig failed......:/ something like this.

And in the partitioning section was unable to change the swap partition size, only gave me 1Gb, have 4Gb RAM.

Booting from USB stick (tried 2 ) & from CD, I get to the menu select install <enter> , the menu disappears leaving blue background with logo in top for a few seconds then goes blank & that's it. I've down loaded again & created bootable USB twice on each stick , checked MD5 checksum's on created USB's, all OK.

(I have a running OMV4 on the PC which I did a year ago but didn't have time to use it & thought a complete new install would be best now)

    Any ideas?

So I got past this by adding "noapic" to the boot string (found this by trying a Ubuntu Live disk).

But it now stops install at "[!!] Partition disks" red screen, when <entering> the <Continue> button the screen flashes blue & back to the same red one. Cannot get past this (twice now)!
