Hello again,
after shutting down (by Autoshutdown) and restarting the before working shares are lost. No shares but the disk is seen by the system.
Is there anything wrong with shutting down the system by autoshutdown?
Because it is headless and located in the cellar, I do not check any message appearing on a screen.
What I did: removed the disk, removed all shares even in MiniDLNA and SMB/CIFS
Insert the disk on a different port and added shares again.
At the moment it works fine. Will se how long.
Thank for all of your help.
Regards
Hi Macom, thanks for the answer. I tried to change cable and port. Same issue. But why is the disk recognized and mounted on another System with less disks? And why does it happen now? It was working fine for almost one year...
Hello guys,
I have an OMV System working well. Lately one out of 10 Disks does not mount no more. I haven't changed anything whether on config nor on hardware.
Disk is WD 4TB which is detected and seen by system. This disk has valid EXT4 formatting and lots of files on it. It is not possible to mount the filesystem.
I take the disk to a spare system. There the disk as well as the files willl be detected and can be mount.
What have Ii done wrong at the System?
Thanks for any help which is much appreciated.
Regards

Instead of using the backup plugin you can just make a clone/image of the OS drive.
Yes, you are right. But this seems to be unpractical for me. Because it needs a lot of time, the correct (paid) Software, the correct Harddrivesize as well as access to the hardware. As every actual backup method of OMV this seems not an easy way for me. So I will wait until next breakdown and setup system again. This will take approximately the same time as recover a backup or reiinstall an Image or hardrive, Thank you for all who help in this case.
As I mentioned above: for me its very interesting (important) WHY the config.xml changed to non ASCII.
Regards and have a nice weekend
macom: Thanks for clarifying that. Hence the config shouldn't be changesd UNTIL the Apply config knob is pressed and everything is finished. So again why is that point listed? It is not clear for me...
I read through the linked chapter and it seems to be real complicated to do a restore. Why is that so? Why can we not do a SAVE of the config (files) and simply restore the config (files) if the system breaks somehow? Like in PFSense e.g.?
if it is not in use why is it listed in omv-firstaid which implies an AID to rescue something??
Yes I found backup.
There are several backup methods. I miss a description of these methods, what they are doing (which files, what differences in between and so on)
When I SSH onto OMV there is "omv-firstaid", Point 5 says "restore configuration backup".
Q1: how can I SAVE a configuration backup?
Q2: how do I RESTORE a backup made bay backup Plugin (lets say dd) from a shared folder when I have no access to Web gui?
Those 2 backupsoftware pieces seem to use different methods and storage places.
It's a little bit confusing to me, because I do not see a line which to follow.
Thanks for clarification.
Hi there, I now have setup a complete new system OMV 6. And YES I habe O;V Extras installed. But I do not see any Plugin which sets up a Sytem Backup. Always only complete shares, folders or files.
Maybe I am missing something?
Thank you for your help. If you have nothing to do ;-)) you could investigate what causes the config.xml to switch to a non ASCII File.
That seems to be interesting
Ok, thank you for your help. It would be very interesting why this could happen. BTW, I searched for SYSTEM Backup, but as far as I understand the plugins they are only for disk and/or share backups. Is this right? or where is my fault in thinking?
I am still new installing the system, but with actual OMV Version...
and how do I restore xml file if it is broken and I do not have a backup because the system does not offer a system backup?
I don't have any idea why this could happen and when. What I did: I took the xml file from another system, replaced the defective one anbd started the web gui without error.
All I have to do now is to add all shares. They are lost.
It is definitely non ASCII.
I have a similar system installed on a separate PC. Do you think I can use that config.xml for the defective one?
Hi, I tried omv-firstaid and got an error at Check RRD Database:
Checking all RRD files. Please wait ...
ERROR: Start tag expected, '<' not found, line 1, column 1 (config.xml, line 1)
root@S-OMV:~#
The config.xml file is not readable. It seems to be a binary file, not a text file. Is that correct?
Thank you. It is installed on a Server PC. Worked ok before.
Tried to reinstall. Worked without error. Login not possible...

Hello, it's me again. Now I have an issue with my web gui. I cannot acces it anymore. There is errormassage "Failed to connect to socket: No such file or directory" I can SSH onto the Server.
After investigating a bit further I found that the "debian.inf.tu-dresden.de_debian_dists_buster-updates_InRelease" file is empty. Means has length of "0".
As everybody says: I have done nothing The system starts and goes down automatically. Last time I discovered sometimes no access to shares after start. Then I rebooted the system. Everything ok. Now all shares are accessible. But no Webgui.
Do you have any idea how to rescue my system or do I have to reinstall OMV?
Thansk for your help.
Now it happens again. No acccess due to DLNA from TV. Access from PC to every resource possible. What is going on? TV picture freezes suddenly.
Hello,
thank you for reading my thread. I have a "working" OMV Installation BUT: every day at 10 p.m I let autoshut the system and every day at 6p.m. a wake up the system.
Most of the time the system works after waking up, sometimes the system does not work at all. So I cannot connect to the shares nor to the Server itself. Even the DLNA is not seen by the TV.
Does anybody has any idea what could cause this issue? I tried to look at the systemlog but I could not see any important error. There is too much information after reboot.
Thanks for your help.
