Cron job
find . -name '*.rar' -execdir unrar e -r- -o- {} \; I just need to figure out how to run it remotely in a cronjob.
is this right?

Will that unrar if they are needed and keep them in the directory they can from?
You need to be careful as you move into OMV6. YouTube videos quickly become out dated as OMV versions advance.

How do you combine the Mirror's into 1 drive? using a different nas when i was testing i made vdevs and then combined those into 1 pool.
I have 4 16TB drives. I was told that I I should not use raidz-1 or 2 cause of the load it would put on the system cause of the 16tb drives. I need guidance please

On OMV6 do ctrl+shift+r to reload with fresh cache. For ZFS install promox kernel first. Not needed per se but generally better.
I assume I can find the instructions on here?
Good Morning, Although I'm having a lot of issues with OMV in general on my new hardware here it is.
Fractal Design Node 804 (it can hold 10 3.5 HD and 2 2.5 drives.)
Asus PRIME Z690M-PLUS D4
Intel i5 12600K
Noctua 12 CPU cooler
32GB DDR4 3200
3 500 GB NVME drives
4 x 16TB Exos Using on board SATA
2 x LSI Logic SAS 9207-8i. On Standby
My issues have been interesting to say the least.
OMV 5.
1. OMV The onboard NIC (Intel 219-V) is not supported.
2. ZFS install fails (Failed to execute command 'export PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin; export LANG=C.UTF-8; zfs list -H -t snapshot -o name,used,refer 2>&1' with exit code '1': The ZFS modules are not loaded. Try running '/sbin/modprobe zfs' as root to load them.)
OMV 6.
1. Page at times reloads when you click on a section
2. ZFS install fails. (I don't have the error code.)
I used one of OMV's backmethod which gave me the following files. ddfull.gz, fdisk, grub, grubparts, packages and blkid
I'm trying to restore it to a Proxmox VM so that I can get 1 cron job that i need to complete the installation of my new OMV setup.
Is it possible to convert the backup (grub) files to an ISO? I want to load my OMV backup into a proxmox to get a cron job back.

It says it works with Linux. I have a jm585 based card that works fine. So, I'm sure it will.
i'll look into jm585 based cards, I don't need 24 but couldn't find a middle ground.

Have you attempted Raid with esata or is that a bad idea also.
If you use a wildcard for your folders to merge (/srv/dev* or something), then I don't think it will ever fail to boot since nofail should be in the filesystem mount options already.
I will attempt that, Now to see if I can recreate by cron job to extract all downloads that haven't already been extracted. I used to have it but I have lost the code in the HD crash. I'm thinking something like
unrar e -r -o- /srv/driveident/downloads/ *.rarIf you are using raid then you don't need mergerfs folders unless you were going to have a bunch of raid 1 arrays. I would not use raid with those enclosures if they are connected via usb.
Yeah they are usb enclosures currently as the tiny does not have esata connectors. I was thinking raid 6

Do you shut your system down a lot? No, this system stays on 24/7 rarely gets rebooted.
HA always cost more since you have hardware just providing redundancy. Some is not worrisome, but if it's going to double the costs i'm not sure if i'm wanting to. Would the raid with mergefsfolders be a bad idea?
What is your current system? How old were the drives that failed? What kind of drives were they? By robust, do you mean more highly available or just less failures?

256 gb m.2 sda
7 remaining drives all of various types and sizes in 2 Mediasonic Probox 4 Bay chassis'
2 WD10's 10 TB (newest drives place Oct 2021)
3 WD 8's "REDs" (shucked from externals) had 5, 2 failed production dates are all around aug 2017 i'm expecting the remaining to fail.

When I mean robust I primarily mean less failures or if a failure happens it's not to the point that I'm thrown into emergency mode because 1 drive can't / won't respond. If i can make it HA also cool but if it's going to increase the cost dramatically it's not worth it.
thinking of getting Seagate 16TB HDD Exos X16
I'm looking to build a new system / tweak my current one to be more robust. I have lost another drive (2 in 6 months) and I'm of course having to rebuild and replace what was lost. Please educate me on what I can do better for the future. I currently have about 7 drives using mergefsfolders to combine into 1 large drive.
I'm entertaining using a raid but i haven't used on in years.
The containers configs are on a single drive the files saved are on the UFS.
