    I just wanted to report back for a verdict:

    I tried installing other versions of debian on my Banana Pi M1, but none worked on its own or with the OMV installer. Therefore, I stayed on that nightly version of Bookworm Minimal.

    In the meantime I found the problem: I did not configure STARTTLS together with port 587 ...

    Now everything working fine
