Flash Memory plugin

  • Dear all,
I got now a new SD card and installed OMV for BananaPi Version 2.2.1 on it.
Now I enable the flash memory plugin, and tried to do what was writen in the notes:

But when I log in and start nano like in point 4, I just see:

    Code
    # UNCONFIGURED FSTAB FOR BASE SYSTEM

    # 512 MB swapfile
    /swapfile1 swap swap defaults 0 0
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults 0 0

There is nothing with UUID or so.... What I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks for helping me.

    Regards.

    OMV 2.2.1 @ AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+
OMV 2.2. @ Banana Pi M1 (only for testing)

  • Thats interesting.....

could it be that I am not logging into the OMV root direct?
Because when I am logged in and write ls or dir, I get nothing as result.

So maybe I am doing somthing wrong at the installation.... my steps are:

    1. Download the image from simpleNAS OpenMediaVault for Banana Pi / M1 (1.5GB)
    2. Transfer/Install the Image with WIn32DiskImager to a 16GB SDCard
    3. Put the SDCard into the bananaPI (nothing conected - only power and LAN)
    4. Start the BananaPI with the Power button
after a few miniutes I can log into the WebGUI with the IP given by my DHCP. I can also log in with putty and that IP as root.
    5. I enable the FlashPlugin and click on apply
    6. I reboot the PI
    7. I log into the shell with putty
    8. try do do the changes ... but fstab is like shown before.

Is there something wrong on my install process?
    Or what can it be?

    Regards.

Some ARM boards/distros don't have the root partition in fstab. So, you are done. The changes recommended in the plugin are optional to reduce writes even more. The plugin itself does most of the work. No need to worry.

  • thats great, thanks for answer.

I just found out that in Details in the Flash Memory part, the root part (/dev/mmcblk0p2) and Write KBytes (508) are in grey.

also I found out, that the filesystem, /dev/mmcblk0p1 with vfat and 19.94MB (total) is not mounted.
    must it be mounted?

The box is grey because it is read only (non-editable). That box shows the amount of data written to the OS partition since last reboot. Not very useful but interesting.

The vfat partition is the boot partition and does not need to be mounted unless you want to upgrade the kernel.

Depends on the distro and device. A lot of them have a config file (typically something like cmdline.txt) in /boot that specifies it. Sometimes you can put an entry in your fstab and it will read it. Other times, you just need to call a remount command that adds the flags you want. Either way, I wouldn't worry about. Most arm boards probably call noatime by default since they are all using flash media.
