Any hints?

Normally, the minidlna user is created with /usr/sbin/nologin as shell. So, there is no need for a password. And DLNA doesn't support password as far as I know.
hmmm coming from a Synology NAS.. as far as I remember I could set a password on their DLNA-Plugin
Maybe on the plugin itself but I've never seen a dlna client that asks for a password.
Hi biofot,
for easier search and reading for other board users I suggest you to open your own thread on this topic as your question differs from the original thread !
Neverteheless: a clear NO !
DLNA is a service that announces his content to all aware clients on your net.
If I'd be cynical I'd say "it's not for real men but just for convenience"
The focus is on distributing media content over the network; regardless to which client.
Only choice you can make is: "will I distribute or not ..."
If you need authentication, you'd choose services like smb, ftp or ssh

Thanks. Should've noticed that and split earlier. Done now

That is actually a perfect explanation
i found followed minidlna with password support
https://github.com/NathanaelA/minidlna
also discussed on http://fluentreports.com/blog/?p=58
i installed all required build tools and lib's (dev) and build / install then minidlna.
and it worked.
so with that you would be able to protect folders with a password (it's more a PIN)
cheers
