VirtualBox errors

  • Hi,

I have installed OMV3 on Debian 8 because I use a NVME drive.
A normal install of OMV 3 is not posible because of a grub install bug.
I used this manual to install Debian 8: http://www.poweredbyjeff.com/2…750-SSD-in-Debian-Jessie/

After complete install, I installed OMV 3.

    All works fine except VirtualBox.
On installation I get some warnings:

When I try to start the plugin, I get this error:

Latest updates are installed (OMV 3.0.48, omv extras 3.4.3)

    Thanks for your help.
    Marco

    What does journalctl -xn say?

Why did you install OMV on nvme anyway? There really isn't much to be gained from the nvme's speed. If you partitioned different so you could put data on part of the nvme then I would just use the entire nvme for data. Put the OS on something else.

  • I have partitoned the NVME drive and use only 20GB for OS.
I will not waste a SATA port for OS.

Here is the result from journalctl -xn

I dont see any errors from journalctl. You installed virtualbox manually before the plugin? What kernel do you have installed?

I just tested the plugin with the 3.16 and 4.7 kernels on a fully updated 3.x. It works fine.

When reinstalling, you need to get everything removed.

    apt-get purge virtualbox openmediavault-virtualbox virtualbox-extpack-installer phpvirtualbox
    rm -f /etc/default/openmediavault-virtualbox /etc/default/virtualbox
    userdel vbox

    Then install the plugin again
    apt-get install openmediavault-virtualbox

  • I have completely reinstalled OMV 3 on Debian 8.
Then, I installed only omv-extras package and virtualbox.

Now it's possible to activate VirtualBox, but when I start phpVirtualBox, I get the following error message:

Same issue on Kernel 3.16 and 4.7

You don't have to try multiple kernels. Make sure your /usr/share/phpvirtualbox/config.php looks exactly like this.

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.9 | compose 7.0.9 | cputemp 7.0 | mergerfs 7.0.3

Did you try a different browser and/or clear the browser cache?

  • After some failed installations, now all works fine.
Thanks for the hint with another browser. In Edge, VirtualBox could be opened and after clearing cache in chrome too.

VirtualBox only runs with 3.16 Kernel.
With 4.7 I get the same error how I described in my first post.

It works fine in my test VM with the 4.7 kernel. Might have something to do with your nvme/uefi setup. Not sure though.
