Well I am running open media vault and have a drive formatted with a file system, that then was put on the shared folders and a user I created name dad in this example was added to read/write/execute privileges. I then enabled a SMB share with this shared folder and BAM, no access to the drive. It is discoverable and the share shows up however I can't open the share at all. What am I missing? I have tried mapping the network drive to type in a username and password and still nothing
No access to share

Was te drive coming already formatted from another system?

Im not sure what filesystem the drive was but I did reformat it to ext4 through the webgui

Strange, do you have ssh access ?
if so can you run this command and post the output here
ls -la /media
-
Heres my results
-
Now a little bit deeper
ls -la /media/ecee*
You can copy text in putty just by selecting.
-
Alright
-
You have permission problems.
Go to the /media/ecee* directory and run
chmod 2775 -R Shares/
chown root:users -R Shares/BTW did you created a shared folder like this in the UI adding this to the path:?
Shares/Shared_folder_name
-
I added the share folder when making it in the gui as I wanted a separate folder for all my shares. Im not familiar with how permission work in linux or chown at all.

Thanks for the help this solved the issue.
