(SOLVED)ASRock Z87 Extreme6

  • I'm having problems with this motherboard

    ASRock Z87 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel
problem is that openmediavault can find the network card.
There r two on this mb
    (intel)
    Giga PHY Intel 1217v
    and a
    GigaLan Intel 1211at.

One of the reason i pick this mb is that it has 8 sata port, and two network interfaces

Mmmm..it looks like the mb is too new for Devian ?? :?:
I hope I'm not the only one with this mb..If you got this motherboard
to work nice with openmediavault, please let me know.

i install a 2 port PCI Express Giggabit network card with Realtek drivers
and openmediavault work but wen it go into suspend/sleep it will not.... wakeUp!!
I been working on this for days....it will suspend with "autoshutdown" but will not wake up with a magic packet.

is late i need some sleep.....!!

    damn...!!

    Thanks.

I have that board for my desktop and the network interfaces dont work with anything except the newest kernels. You would be better off getting an Intel network card.

    omv 7.0.5-1 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.1.6 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.4

omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

Did you try the backport kernels?

Backports isn't new enough for this board. You need 3.9/3.10 kernel minimum. Maybe eventually they will backport the drivers to the 3.2 kernel but they haven't yet.

Isn't it supposed to have 10 SATA ports actually?
Did you try the backport kernels?

I install a 2 port StarTech (with Realtek Chips) and is working real nice.
it was not working at first ,but after some black magic, is working NOW
and yes is 10 port not 8 :D sorry..

    Thanks.

For serious stuff which I take you OMV is you should never rely on Realtek nics. Always stick to Intel nics and the price tag difference is down to 15$ these days so these few extra money spend you will never regret. Try search google and you will see that Intel nics generally performs 10-20% better than Realtek besides any distro comes with drivers for Intel nics unless bleeding edge chip sets.

  • I'm with miras on the Intel NICs. I've posted the same sentiment several times elsewhere on the forum. I can tell you that some of the issue that I've experienced with Realtek NICs are due to problems with the firmware communicating with switches built into routers. I've found that if I hook them up to good switches it seems to resolve some problems. If I can I will throw in an Intel NIC. Sometimes you don't have that option though.

So everything but the NICs work fine in OMV 0.5?

that was the only problem....for now,the inboard network card (intel) were not working.
