[SOLVED] help please reset password root

If you can still login into the web interface, create a user and add the user to the sudo group. Login to the terminal using that user and sudo passwd root

I do not have access to the webgui ... lost that as well!

Boot another Linux system, mount the OMV filesystem and chroot to it to change the password for root.

Thanks for the replies .
Unfortunately I am not sure I can do everything as you said, you can provide a link from where you follow the step by step procedure? I would be very grateful. -
Can't you just boot it in single user and change the root passwd?

On this link follow the not so easy method to reset root. You need to make a live cd. It could be an ubuntu or debian live cd. You boot to the cd then mount the hard disk. Instructions on the link.

PS- you can use nano to edit the file, if it's on the live cd. Also, no you can't use a normal user to fix this.
