Raspberry pi: model B+ only 229MB ram available

  • hi,
i recently noticed that some of my ram disappeared. :-0. now htop and the graph is only showing 299 MB or ram. i don't remember doing any drastic changes other than just updates. system seems to be stable but just noticed the ram missing in the graph.
please see the screenshot which shows it one had around 500MB ram but now it only has 299 MB.
    thanks
    asms

  • Could be that the ram split was reset on an update. Check /boot/config.txt for that.

    Greetings
    David

    here is my config.

  • I don't have a B+ myself, please give @ryecoaaron some time to have a look at it.

I read about a kernel config issue that caused 100+ mb to be unavailable on the RPi2 but I haven't read about this. I would guess the RPi forum might be more helpful.

  • i tried updating the \boot firmware manually from https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware. this seems to fix the memory issue. from ssh i can see total memory as 483.
    root@omv:~# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 483 133 349 0 17 68
    -/+ buffers/cache: 47 435
    Swap: 999 0 999

but updating the firmware seems to break my web ui. nginx does not seem to be running.
    root@omv:~# service nginx status
nginx is not running ... failed!

i tried restarting nginx but it gives me this

    Code
    root@omv:~# service nginx restart
Restarting nginx: nginx: the configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf syntax is ok
nginx: [emerg] socket() [::]:80 failed (97: Address family not supported by protocol)
nginx: configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed
    root@omv:~#

any ideas? thanks for your awesome support.

    Did you run rpi-update?

Hard to say. I'm guessing you missed something. I always use rpi-update.
