samba: what does omv automatically and what not

  • hi all

i am new to openmediavault but i have some expierence in samba on linux systems. til now i have run a samba server on a debian system.
now i have in mind to use omv in the hope user managment get easier.

i have omv installed on a debian wheezy system. then i have created a raid1; on this raid i have created a filesystem and on this a shared folder (i'm not sure if this shared folder is necassary for using samba).

so i enabled samba under services. further i enabled "user home directories" and "set browsable".
then i created som test users "user1" and "user2". both are member of the group sambashare and have read/write permissions on the share folder i created above.

now i can see the shares on my laptop (linux system); i have a folder homes in this share but no home folders user1 and user2.

further, when i log in into openmediavault as user1 or user2 the only thing i can see is "access right managment". no home folder in order to manage files.

perhaps i misunderstood what omv is for. but should omv automatically create "home folders" for each created user on the samba share?

    kind regards.
