SSD TRIM option

Hey,

after successfully installing OMV 2.1 on a Samsung SSD 850 EVO I recognized that the related entry in /etc/fstab doesn't contain the 'discard' option. Isn't the SSD supposed to be recognized automatically during installation? I think I read something like this somewhere here. Does the missing entry mean it isn't properly recognized? Can I simply add the 'discard, noatime' options into the related fstab-entry or isn't it needed anyway with modern SSD's? I'm using the standard kernel 3.2 that gets shipped with OMV. Do I need to install the backports kernel?

I doubt it highly. I've never heard of needing to put the discard option in the swap partition.

I think you could. But none of us have. Yeah, I see in their examples they use it on swap.

Hallo Zusammen

Leider ist mein Englisch nicht so gut das ich hier alles verstehe aber ich habe das dazu ein Paar Fragen.

Ich habe OMV auf einer Kingston V300 SSD 60 GB installiert. Muss ich den Trimbefehl nun aktivieren ?? Oder was anderes ??
Wenn ja wie ?? Meine Konsolen erfahrung würde ich als mager ansehen wie kann ich das trotzdem hinbekommen??

führe mal cat /etc/fstab aus.

Hier sind alle festplatten drin welche bei dir gemountet / im filesystem eingebunden sind.
Hier sollte bei der ssd die discard option stehen.

Du kannst aber auch gerne mal die ausgabe hier posten und wir schauen wie du das ganze machen musst.

It looks more consistend to activated the trim option for all mounts of the ssds.
But i'm not sure if there will be any effect.
What do you think? Do it or not?

Geht alles wunderbar.
Hab gestern bei swap und der Root Partition die Option gesetzt, ohne Probleme.

Kann man also ohne Angst empfehlen beides zu setzen.

hier mit Anpassung:

einfach die Datei mit sudo nano /etc/fstab öffnen und die discard Funktion hinzufügen, an den stellen wo ich es eingefügt habe.
