Cannot see Virtualbox 5.1.14 in apt-policy

  • I have done following but still cannot install vitrualbox 5.1.14:

    1. removed all kernal but 4.9.0-0.bpo.3-686-pae
    2. installed linux header according to uname -r
    3. purged virtualbox, virtualbox-dkms, phpvirtual, userdel vbox, groupdel vboxgroup
    4. enabled backport, with source "deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian jessie-backports main contrib" under /etc/apt/source.list
    5. ran omv-aptclean

    but the apt-cache policy virtualbox still looks:

    Code
    ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
    omv-extras-org.list  openmediavault-kernel-backports.list  openmediavault.list	openmediavault-local.list

    is there any silly thing I missed?

    I never built the packages for i386. Most people using virtualbox have amd64 compatible systems.

    omv 7.1.0-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.8 proxmox kernel

    plugins :: omvextrasorg 7.0 | kvm 7.0.13 | compose 7.2 | k8s 7.1.0-3 | cputemp 7.0.1 | mergerfs 7.0.5 | scripts 7.0.7

    omv-extras.org plugins source code and issue tracker - github - changelogs

    So VB plugin is not working on i386 regardless the kernel version?

    No, it works but not virtualbox version 5.1.14 that you asked about. Your output shows that 5.1.8 is available which will work just fine.

    Any alternative? e.g. Proxmox?

    I use VMware ESXi and Proxmox. They both work well.
